300tdi Dashboard - Refitting
Hi All

I know this is quite a noddy question ( Rolling Eyes ) but does anyone have an easy to understand guide to putting the dashboard back together on a Defender 300tdi? I'm talking childs play stuff such as "put this piece here, bolt on with M6 in three places that are here, here and here etc etc"

It's currently all in bits and only the back plate remains attached. Before you ask, no I didn't take it apart and therefore can't just re-run in reverse. That was the job of the garage who did the respray and in order to save cash they didn't put it back together. Hence, it's now my job to work it out and as it's my first time doing any of this I thought I'd ask people better placed than me for first hand advice.

Current photo is attached, which for a humble "Defender Student" such as me, is fairly daunting. Shocked

I would of thought the easiest way would be to find a parts manual. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html
90 V8 - Maggie http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic42564.html
110 TD5 - Buggsy http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic59029.html
52HG25 lightweight https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic72342.html
D3 Hse - Fiona
Capri 2l S - Anna

Think I might have a problem............

I'll try to remember roughly to get you started. This should get you close and use the parts book to help you work out which fasteners go where as it lists them and has an exploded diagram of sorts.

From where you are go for bottom dash on next, followed by the tray that sits within. This has self tappers that screw into plastic inserts in the bulkhead.

Next up is the grey plastic grill over the air vents. Don't forget to connect up the heater air hoses when you do this.

You can put the wiper motor cover on next as it to makes it all look better. More self tapping screws.

I'd then move onto the sides of the instrument binnacle which screw into the bulkhead.

Next I'd do the grab handle on passenger side and the trim around the lip of the dash tray

Next up I think the heater controls near the drivers door then the top of the dash with vent surrounds. All self tapping screws.

Pop the steering colum shroud on then slot the instruments in.

Good luck!

As Mash says, get yourself a Haynes manual - I used it to take my 300tdi dash apart, gives a very good step by step on removal and replacing. It's too long to go into in a post as there's lots of steps - good luck Thumbs Up
