Td5 air con issues
Hi all, during the recent weather I have finally made use of my factory air con and it works a treat, only issue is after an hour or so it virtually stops. Motor still spinning but not a lot of blow at all. First guess was blocked pollen filter but I can't seem to find one. Am I right that there isn't one or is there somthing else you wizards can suggest. Cheers in advance ed

No idea what could be wrong unfortunately, but it should run continuously cold for many hours (i've had mine running cold for a 6 hour stint at least).

TD5 air con doesn't like running full tilt on the 3rd coldness for very long and you get a build up of ice on the evaporator. Try knocking the temp down to 1 or 2 after half an hour and give it a chance.

It ices up even on setting two (takes slightly longer) and setting one is just useless

Does your compressor on the engine cycle on and off? It should. It does sound like your system is "freezing up" - the evaporator is getting frozen and not transferring cold to the air. You also may notice the volume of air has reduced as well.

I would check the thermostat on the evaporator. 1995 300tdi Defender 90 P/UP

This link is to the "in dash" aircon rather than the below dash version. I have not seen a TD5 with the in dash unit. The in dash unit has the vent flaps blocked off and plastic covers fitted where the vents were. 1995 300tdi Defender 90 P/UP
