Bodywork and Corrosion 64 plate
Good Afternoon Ladies and Gents, I didn't think I would be sending this message so early in my 90's life.

Has anybody out there suffered corrosion on there nearly new defender?

My 64 plate has 3 areas around the windscreen and it is just starting on the roof seam between the flat and angled sections.

Does anybody know if this will be covered under warranty?

Kind Regards

It will all be covered under the warranty, but it wouldnt surprise me if you get nothing more than localised treatment and repaint.

I had the same happen on my 90's roof at about 4 1/2 years old. Took to the approved bodyshop who pointed out the massive design floor of lapping the rear over the roof over the front, thus forcing water into any crack/opening in the seam. Their recommendation was replace the roof entirely otherwise the issue would be back soon enough. All LR were interested in was localised repair and make good. In answer to your warranty question, yes, most probably, possibly reliant on the fact that you have had your yearly bodywork checks. You are covered for bodywork for 6 years.

I have a 2014 110, its already had corrosion repairs to the small mesh grille below the front main grille also to the windscreen/bulkhead blocks. The small grille seems to be down to differing metals meeting, even the rivets, but the blocks just bubbled on their front edge. I've even had the engine sump pan replaced due to corrosion causing a slight oil leak.

The bits that I've had repaired have been taken off repaired/replaced, then painted and re attached to the vehicle. I haven't encountered paintwork that has had to be blended in to surrounding paintwork, on this vehicle, but research for a good dealer/paint shop should be time well spent.

I don't know which part of West Yorks you're in but, Rybrook, Huddersfield got some good press on here recently for assistance re warranty work

I haven't suffered it, but have seen photos on forums of windscreen surround corrosion. I've also seen mention of roof corrosion. Get it to a dealer and ask that it be repaired.

I thought LR had sorted the bubbling paint problem on the cast windscreen blocks, certainly my 2007 Puma 110 SW was fine when I sold it after 7 years of living outside. I shall be keeping an eye out on the ones on my 2015 90.

Windscreen Blocks
The windscreen blocks on my 08 110XS were pretty shot when I traded it in for the 64. So I put some Croytec Black Blocks on the 64. Well impressed with the look. Most items have been upgraded on my keeper as was expecting problems with hinges and blocks, but not the paintwork Embarassed

Have a good look around the alpine light window rubbers as well.

I found slight corrosion at points around both on our 2014 90. LR repainted the entire roof 2001 90 HT 6.0LS/6spdAuto.

Cheers for that. At the moment they are good. I did get the windscreen and the alpine Windows sealed with silicone within a week of taking delivery!

I have just taken my 110 to the dealer with the same very messy windscreen blocks .
I was told that although highly corroded they are NOT part of paint and corrosion warranty.

Keith, I'd challenge that or find another dealer. Same problem on my 64 plate and they sorted it no questions asked. 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone

I too would consider speaking to another dealer, or JLR themselves, when I took mine in for the small mesh grille and the windscreen blocks. The dealer wasn't fazed, referring to them as known usual corrosion areas. The blocks had begun to bubble but the paintwork was not broken through. The grille was a mess though.

JLR authorised the repairs after photos were forwarded by the dealer, it shouldn't be a problem.

How long does the paint and corrosion guarantee last out of interest?

If my windscreen blocks start to bubble I think I may go for the Croytec versions. I assume it must be down to paint prep and application, as I said before my 07 was fine no bubbling at all after 7 years outside.

Spoke too soon............

Just washed mine and trailer, ready for start of drive to the South of France tomorrow evening.

Paint bubbling in a couple of places around windscreen.

So it'll be off for a cup of nice coffee at the dealers in a few months when I'm back!

Not bad for a vehicle that's never seen a snow flake or driven on salted roads etc.!
