Ok, so I reckon I am going to remove the hood currently on my Double Cab - not really secure, cannot keep it clean, and looking for something which means I can actually see out the back!
So, and apologies if this has been done to death in the past, I come across, after much searching, the Smartop II as sold in Europe by Taubenreuther, and supplied by a small network of dealers here in UK. http://offroad24.com/index.php?news=0517 It LOOKS expensive, VERY expensive, but is weather proof, remote release, gas struts, and can take 250kg load http://offroad24.com/shop/index.php?pli=10...iew=detail Anyone any alternatives for secure, weatherproof, long lasting double cab cover? 2001 TD5 110 DCPU in Bonatti Grey |

I have the truckman top and that's fairly waterproof.
They are very expensive considering it's a lump of fibreglass but that's par for the course I guess. If anyone else is looking for a solid one, there seems to be a new company producing the camel bac style backs listed on eBay. 2002 Defender 110 DC |

Ah, my apologies! I think the one on eBay are a little bigger and squarer than the camel bac version, buy at £1250 less I think they would probably be worth a look at. 2002 Defender 110 DC |

We replaced the standard hood sticks with a security cage set and have the look of the original tilt (mohair version) with good security.

I have one too (paid £200 for mine though  ). When closed mine is 100% waterproof..... but as you lift the lid it all ges wrong!
I have plans of a strip down, powder coat in the colour I want, and also going to renew all the seals and modify the one closest to the cab so that the water doesn't get in
I also need to do the lock on mine but it has all the gubbins for a remote release and also can be plugged into the alarm. Glyn  |

Have a closer look at your lock mechanism Glyn, mine had what looked like an actuator but all it turned out to be was a switch for an interior light

Right - option 1 - the African Outback cover might be a no go, given that I have only just stopped shaking after getting the quote....

The one in mine is actually a electronic actuator (even works when I put 12v on it) All I could think was BONUS
I looked at this one too, and I nearly got it... but then the Outback one came on sale and got it. TBH if I were to do it again I would spend the extra. The lid raises up about 8"ish above the body capping where the other one isn't (if anything you loose space)..... I am supprised at the number of times I have needed the extra height where otherwise I would have had to have it wedged open to get stuff in (and it would be unsecure)  Click image to enlarge This is what mine looks like I have just seen where that Taubenreuther company is, and next time I pop down to see Peter at Nakatanenga I will probably drop by there too and see if he can do a deal.... and so I can get a few parts

Also just seen that if you want lashing bars on the top of the cheaper one it comes to just under £800.... You just have to weigh up the pro's and con's and see which works out best for you

Yep - trying to decide whether it is worth it.
For comparison purposes, African Outback one is £1310 plus fitting, plus £290 for the bars on top, bringing it to over £1600 when fitted. A chunk of change in anyone's language. And to think, no birthdays coming up soon...... Anyone got one they want to sell?  2001 TD5 110 DCPU in Bonatti Grey |
