Currently the UK is 'enjoying' rather hot temperatures.
Parents and carers are being reminded about the dangers of leaving young children in locked vehicles and police in the UK have recently attended such incidents as well. This warning also applies to leaving dogs or other animals in locked cars in the hot sun Now people have described vehicles left in the sun as being liked climbing into an oven. Have a look at this video HERE which graphically demonstrates how hot a closed car can get and that is with the outside temperature at 27C. Imagine a baby or dog being locked in that car! Brendan |

Not just inside the car either.
It's surprising how many people I've seen dragging their dogs around for a walk at mid day! 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

Good advice leeds...
Temperatures got a touch high in West Berkshire yesterday, and again today I noticed two things... My 'rough and ready' RS Temp Gauge easily started north of 50 degrees (positioned directly behind the glass) when I first got in. I have been really impressed with the Puma's AC and this figure rapidly falls when sent to work... I just photographed this reading, car off, sun roof open vehicle under a 200 year old tree, so in effect completely in shade...still a touch warm in there... Yes, it never fails to baffle me why some people think it's ok to leave dogs in cars in this weather even with a window open. Or take their dogs for a drag in the mid day sun..we've had to take ours out before breakfast for the past couple of days, then next walk at 10pm.
It was hot in Otley the other day, per picture: Click image to enlarge |

I was under the impression that it was prohibitively expensive to retro-fit air conditioning to a Defender, so I would be interested to know any details on your fit - what, where, how, how much etc |

I can say I regularly leave my dogs in the T6 van locked in full sun or low temps
However the van is equipped to carry dogs with rear air con and a run lock for the engine this is linked in car CCTV and temp alarms In fact the pooches sometimes demand to be the van as is cooler than the shade The message is clear though Cars can = Ovens |

On the topic of very hot cars....What are the Land Rover old wives tales for cooling them down?
I have found a very rudimentary way of making cool air conditioning for older vehicles or those without air con is to empty a ice tray into your wing air scoop. As air flows over the melting ice it cools and the air directed at your feet cools down a bit. As the ice melts it trickles out the drain hole Also, once all the ice has melted... Open your vents and sunroof if fitted and gives a good cooling affect, but obviously wont help you in stationary traffic. Counting down the days till winter, I'm defiantly a cold weather person. Don't do well in the heat Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197 Self confessed mileage hunter |
