Wheeler Dealers: G reg 90 V8 project
This episode was shown again recently and yet again one thing puzzles me about it so I took pics of the TV to show you what I mean.

When they buy the old tatty blue 90 the front grille is all warped and as Edd China says "crispy".

Mike goes to Simmonites to buy bits for it and gets a new straight grille which is in silver. It gets fitted to the car for the 'reveal' when the car is on the turn plate.

Then, when they're driving it down the road it looks like the old one has been sprayed silver and put back on! The slats are all wavy and bent again.

I've never understood what happened here. Anyone know?

When they bought it:

And then on the final test drive it's all wonky again!

Looks like it's being filmed in a reflection so could be distortion. If you look at the N/s below the headlight it also looks distorted back... Unless they've bumped it. Ray

As long as you realise that TV is one big fabrication and nothing is real, you won't go far wrong. I read an interview with Ed and Mike on line and they were open about the fact that they can only really show four or five repair items per episode and that they do far more than the TV episode portrays. I always like the fact that by the reveal of the car on the turntable, the tyres are nearly always new - and very few episodes mention changing the tyres. These items never seem to make the Mike Brewer tally at the end of the project either. I also read somewhere that in the early days, the buyers of the cars were stooges, usuallymembers of the production team? Not sure how true that was. I still like Wheeler Dealers. I wish I had an Ed China and an Ed China workshop.

Edd wired up the electric fan the wrong way and melted the grille !!

The underneath was very scabby too apparently so I was reliably told Whistle

Actually a certain tv mechanic wired the electric fan backwards so hot air was blown into the new grill whilst in test drive resulting in a warped grill from someone who had to rebuild the rotten chassis and axles and bodges from a knackered farm truck

A lot of these programs are a setup....

I rented some kit to the Storage wars series once, talk about a total setup! Laughing

Nothing in television is spontaneous. When someone walks through the door and is greeted like a long lost friend, the camera crew, sound man, Director and production crew have spent three hours previous to the shot choregraphing the meeting and getting it set up.
These programmes are purely entertainment. Reality doesn’t come close.

I can’t think of a car that the team has flipped since the first series where they lost money. Doesn’t anyone find that curious?

The Bangers and Cash programme can’t really be script written. The production company obviously need to select which vehicles have an interesting story behind them pre-auction. They film a public open auction and I suppose sometimes the people who buy the vehicles they have featured just don’t want to be on telly.

Derek Mathewson and his son’s always say, you don’t make money restoring classic cars albeit Mike Brewer and Ed/Ant/Elvis apparently do.

Yes. There was a lot of talk that some of the purchasers from earlier series were all stooges from the production crew or their friends and family. Not sure if it was ever proved.

Not really a fan of Mike Brewer nor his doppelgänger on Car SOS Tim Shaw. If someone could make a show with Fuzz Townsend and Ed China doing mechanical stuff only, I would be more than happy. I find the banter and the dealing excruciating to watch, but I suppose this is what tv companies call entertainment for the masses?

At least, on the face of it, Tim Shaw and Fuzz Townsend are doing something positive with Car SOS.

A little like DIY SOS - I may not be a fan of the presenters, or the format, but I can't fault that someone benefits as a result of the program.
