Check the bulbs first. It is not unknown for both to fail after the same amount of use.

Thanks Blackwolf,
I'll check the bulbs, didn't think both would go at the same time? Cheers, Fish. |

Worth checking since it's the easiest repair. I've been fooled before now into thinking that two bulbs can't have failed at the same time, but if they're the same age, came from the same batch, and have had the same use, they're likely to fail at around the same time.
At least rule it out first. |

Is the side lamp indicator on your instrument cluster still working? The front side lamps come off two different independent fuses and feed instrument cluster, tail lights and number plate light. A quick check to see if they are working will give you an indication if you have bulbs, fuses or earth issue. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Hi K9F,
Yes, the side lamp indicator on the instrument cluster still works - I only noticed side lights weren't working by being nose to tail in traffic last evening and could see they weren't on. Likely culprit is bulbs then? I've no other 'symptoms' happening, so not sure if it would be earth problem? I have new bulbs on order, so hopefully narrows it down. Cheers, Fish. |

Two bulbs at once happened with me.
They're a standard spec, your local auto junk store should have em on the racks... Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants... |

Well, chalk up another one to both bulbs blown at same time! Thanks for all the help and suggestions, appreciated.

Can someone give some guidance on this, please? My lamp indicator on the instrument cluster has gone out, along with my front side lights and rear tail lights. Indicators/fog and front main lights still work. I also think the instrument cluster bulbs and the centre console bulb has gone out. All in one go… I’m still a newbie to Defenders, so still working out what’s where etc. 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS. |

Yep it is the switch. There are two different connections depending on the year of manufacture but this is what the switch looks like
