Can anyone help identify these mods?
Hi folks,

Only my second post here so I might as well get stuck right in! I've had my 110 for a few months now, it's been modified by previous owners and has extra wiring everywhere.

I've figured out the split charge circuits, winch wiring etc but there are a few connectors on the roof I can't figure out;

I think Anderson connectors are usually for power, or for connecting jump leads. I've got nothing to plug in and test it with.... Could it have been to power appliances in a roof tent? Also no idea what the socket next to it might be.

This socket is lurking on the other side. Is it maybe a CB mount?

I have switches on the dash marked for light bar, beacon and reverse.....

Any help demystifying would be great!

Chris

I've also got odd holes on the windscreen under the snorkel. Any guesses?

The second pictures is almost certainly a CB antenna mount. The third looks like holes from another snorkel, possibly a different design removed to fit your current one.

With the first picture what are you referring too, the plug under the duck tape? 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon

Howdy, thanks for replying.

I'm clueless as to the plug under the duct tape, but also not sure why the Anderson fitting is up next to it in the roof.

I'll need to get the holes properly blanked off too, they're currently just taped over. Under the passenger seat is crazy..... Solenoids, fuse holders and extra wires everywhere!

Is it possible that in its past it has been used to tow a specialist trailer maybe a catering wagon? The Anderson and other connector may have been to power and control that whilst on the move. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.

That's a very strange place for an Anderson plug.. I would guess it had something on the roof or a trailer maybe that required a lot of power..

the small 3 pin socket will be for the beacon,

the other is a CB mount just googled and found the pic below

the last will most certainly be from an old snorkel, you can either fill them or just put a couple of sell tapping screws in, you want to keep the water out of there if you can.. Thumbs Up My 1986 90 is currently on a full rebuild, with new chassis, Paint etc.. Thanks for the help folks!

The catering trailer makes sense, the care came with an almighty towbar! Not sure what else I could use it for, my other thought was that it was used for rear jump leads. Is; in a recovery role where you reverse up to the vehicle you're jumping.

I'm off for a dig under the seat now, tons of other wires and boxes of tricks going on!

Interesting place for an Anderson connector, is there a switched or otherwise controlled supply to it? Those bare edged holes are crying out for some wiring grommets! Steve.

It doesn't necessarily need to be a catering trailer, it could have pulled an overland trailer which would also explain the tow bar and Anderson connector. Could also have been used to supply power to a roof tent. 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon

Thanks for the help so far folks, it's very much appreciated.

I agree that the finishing leaves a big to be desired. It looks like a secondhand roof, the sunroof had been sealed up and it's not in keeping with the good condition of the rest of the car.

Roof tent and overland trailer would fit with the other mods, plus there's a big flat front runner roof rack that looks like it's take a tent more than equipment.

The Anderson is a weird one, can't see a switch but there are holes where one has been. I'll need to get the multimeter out and see what's live and what's not. Having a 12v supply at the rear would probably be useful for a whole load of things.

I've had a look at the front, and there seems to the remnants of a light bar, plus winch wiring. The grill fittings look like a brit part item in the catalogue, but it doesn't tally with the car having air con. Again, I'd love to get some lights st the front and a new winch once I figure out what wires are what!

That's amazing, thank you! Saw a similar bar elsewhere but it stated it wasn't suitable for a motor with air con. That's really useful, cheers!

Why can I feel the shopping list growing.....

Edit to pjb: fire me a pm with a price/ location dude. The holes have wee brackets behind them, so there's no space for a connector. The hole is the same size though!

Wouldn't be able to help you with those two I'm afraid, down own either on my Defender. I'm sure if you got a winch it'd have instructions which tell you which wire goes where though. 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon

Thanks for taking the time to reply though. I'm browsing cheap winches (only occasional use needed) so when the time comes I'll brave the web of wires, solenoid sand fuses under the seat. Someone's fitted an Albright at some point, so hopefully the wiring hasn't been done on the cheap!
