Help needed with DRL wiring please.
Fitted a DRL bumper with lights. I want the DRL lights to come on with the ignition and go off when the lights are turned on. Could someone who has done this please tell me what connections they made and where they made them. Where did you access the ignition feed and other connections.
It would appear from the instructions that to do what I want a relay must be fitted. If you have done this where did you fit the relay.
I went to a local garage this morning to get the lights wired up and they hadn't a clue as to where to take feeds from.
It is a 2008 Puma. Copy of instructions included.

Wiring scheme (A) is the one you want, which requires an ignition feed (label 15), side lights (label 58 ) and ground (label 31).

No relay is required in scheme A.

Wiring scheme (B) seems be an alternative method of switching them off when the sidelights come on, but it's not completely clear as I think some connections have not scanned properly.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Thanks. That is the full instructions. Where is the easiest place to access the ignition feed also the easiest place to connect to the sidelights? 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Spud,
on mine the feed was directly from the battery and then the side light as the light sensor picked up that the alternator was working and tuned the lights on, then the sensor detected that the side light was working and dimed the lights ...
I'm not sure how your system works but mine was very much along the KISS lines

Hi Spudfan,

I did this conversion last year on a 2010 90 xs. Very simple.

I fitted the lights in situ, then ran the wires along the driver side wing along some other cabling and placed both fuses there.

I took a feed off the driver side light, and ran it up along with the other wires.
The feed from the ignition was off the main loom at the back of the engine.

I forget the colour code, but you can look this up in the manual. Main ignition feed.

Very simple job, you end up with two fuses along the driver side wing inside the engine bay, one for the ignition feed, and the second for the side light feed.

The negative I sent back to the side light feed.

As I had fitted led side lights, the overall current was reduced even with dlrs fitted.

They look great, and really modernise the defender.

Here is a link to the thread I received help from.

Thank you for that info. Your kit is the same as the one I bought. You did not have to fit a relay. The garage I went to told me that I needed to fit one. Regarding the power feed, would it be possible to take it from the unused connection behind the rear speaker panel as mentioned in this post

Anyway I will print off your post and take it with me to the garage. They should be able to follow it. Thumbs Up 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Finally got the DRL's wired up and working. Could'nt utilise the spare live feed at the rear speaker driver's side as it is live ALL of the time. Anyway thanks to all who contributed. Thumbs Up 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
