You have made some valid points. Thumbs Up I totally agree with you about the stripped down look. That's why I've been torn on what direction to take.

I appreciate your input. Cheers Andy

Well, I appreciate this is not the most aesthetically pleasing 90 to many, but I love it! A combination of it being a Defender, soft top, and having a roof rack is just too good to be true - another bucket list item. Driving down on a hot summer day, packed up, to a nice surf spot, roof top tent on...

Striker, if I were you, I would go ahead with the conversion plans. MY15 Aintree 110 SW - for sale - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic82781.html

Having conducted some quick research, it seems that a roof rack is actually not needed at all for such bucket list plans...

But, back on track, I concede that I can see the appeal in this one .... (built again on top of the integral NAS cage).

The real beauty of the Defender is that, at the end of the day, if you don't like it, its easy to change it back again! Thumbs Up

I bet he was gutted. I take it he was ok.

He was fine...stood and watched it go, didn't put his handbrake on when he was stuck on Llangollen Steps, it barrel rolled a bit!

Luckily my Defender had front and rear winches and managed get him out of there !!

As for the rag top...I'm still thinking about it... May be over Winter!

Update,

Nearly all the parts have arrived this week for the conversion. Today after work, I with the help from friends removed the roll cage, rear door and wheel carrier, roof and side panels Thumbs Up

Then I ran into a issue with the top screen rail from Exmor trim. It's too short Big Cry the invoice says td5/td4 so I'm assuming they have sent the wrong one. It seems to be about 20mm too short. I was hoping to complete it tomorrow between the rain but that's not going to happen now. I'll post a photo if it stops raining tomorrow.

On a brighter note the heavy duty hood sticks from Purely Metal are very well made. In fact I'm seriously considering whether or not to refit the cage Whistle

Does anybody have any photos of the top rail fitted to a Puma? Cheers Andy

Top Rail photos
The off side fits well, the near side looks short. The rail is pre drilled to match the holes in the windscreen. All are perfectly aligned.
I also need to clean off the old mastic Whistle
