Seems he's quit Top Gear. Never actually watched him in it.

It's all planned, Evans is now under investigation for sexually assaulting a female co-worker.

If the BBC are still counting on getting overseas TV chains interested in paying royalties for the rights to broadcast TG, this move was already overdue after a few features of the new TG. Personally think TG is doomed, getting the old trio back is no option, they were over their best after all, but the new cast is useless, that gingerhead with his high pitched shouting voice was a total disaster. Think the BBC program think tanks better design something entirely new than trying to continue an old success formula with this new cast. Won't work IMO.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. As much as I don't particularly like the blokes presenting style , I do think he has done the honourable thing and been honest about his abilities to fill the shoes left by the previous crowd , so credit where credit is due to him

Jeremy Clarkson on hearing the news Chris Evans flops on Top Gear losing five million viewers and leaves the show for good.
For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at.. http://www.youtube.com/user/conwy1 |

It's almost an impossible thing taking something that has such a following and making a go of it. You don't have much chance other than to maintain the level (almost never going to happen); lose a bit (pretty much bound to happen); or crash and burn so badly because you changed EVERYTHING so non of it's any good (could have happened).
So it's not been plain sailing, and everyone is in agreement that Evans is not the man for the top (why he insisted on wearing that scruffy outfit for every episode I will never understand) but look at some of the information to losing 5 million viewers. That's in comparison to Clarkson days (so there was always going to be a drop) AND the sixth episode was broadcast against France vs Iceland on ITV with the repeat on BBC 2 on Monday broadcast at 11pm due to the tennis. But even if ALLNEW TG brought only half the revenue of old TG, then it's still a cash cow worth making for the BBC. And if it enables the BBC to make new and interesting programmes, then it can carry on. Providing they ditch bad actor Jordan and that idiot Rory. I recorded and watched every episode, and after the series it occurred to me that I did so more as a petrol head not as a 'bloke'. By that I mean I watched it as if it was a back basics, nuts and bolts consumer motoring magazine and not for all the high jinks of the predecessor. I didn't watch any of the studio chat, any of the guest rubbish, just the car reports. Chris Harris in the Aston two weeks ago was a great example, as was MLB in this week's Porsche.
If they get MLB (who I like) to be studio host (and drive), get rid of Irvine (who's purpose I did not understand) and focused on filing the hour with quality test drives by Chris (Harris), Sabine and Rory I think it will get a good steady audience. Copying the old TG was doomed to fail, it was unique to them and their chemistry. Instead if the BBC let this become more of a Chris Harris on YouTube style vehicle, it would be enjoyable to watch and I think would have a steady stream of petrol headed followers. That's not to say they can't have fun, nor do some specials, but the last TG became an hour of tomfoolery not a car show. Make the cars the star and it would be enjoyable to watch and without Evans, Irvine and all the trying-too-hard studio nonsense, I'd watch. Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |
