Paint blasted off wheels
I blasted of the Landrover cream paint when pressure washing my defender wheels at a garage. There seems to be a dark blue paint underneath. Should I get the wheels re-spayed, I popped in to a powder coating shop but they only do a limited range of colours, is this normal. Has anyone else had this problem?

Whether you decide on paint or powder coat then preparation is the key.

Our local powder coaters can do any RAL colour, price is about £45-50 per wheel and special effects are about £5-10 extra per wheel.

There are powder coaters and then there are good powder coaters. I know one firm I will use locally and a couple of local powder coating firms I will not use.

Sadly it's normal for a defender, whether it should be the case or not...

Steel wheels on mine did the same, only lasted till they were a year old, paint started to fall off in sheets and they were rusting too. swapped them for alloys since it's not a working vehicle and they suit it better.

Thanks I will ask around see if I can find a powder coater to do the wheels.
I did think about alloy wheels but am put off as I had alloys on a discovery, which always seemed to suffer
from tyres loosing air when the vehicle got older. However I did keep the discovery over 10 years.

Have noticed tyres slowly losing pressure on old wheels and tyres combinations.

Could not decide if it was a case of corrosion just inside the tyre bead just forcing bead open allowing air out slowly, or if it was a case of the tyre rubber age hardening not being as flexible.

Had a set of old tyres about 55-8 years old which was prone to loosing pressure/ punctures. Replaced tyres and problems disappeared.

So in my mind a good reason to retire old tyres..
