I've searched but not been able to find out from the forum if any conversion to a double din is available for my Defender. Can anyone enlighten me or point me in the right direction please? Mike

Double DIN is quite possible but beware... The early Defender dash and consoles are poorly situated for a double DIN set up. When you are cruising on the motorway in fifth gear your shifter will be in the way of the screen and touch screen functions will be awkward. I did a lot of research and measuring even went so far as to do a mock up and was never satisfied with the result. Ended up going for a seven inch retractable screen single DIN set up.
Food for thought. My set up... Click image to enlarge Double DIN same console... Thanks for the pics 4RF RDS. I'm just in conversation with Raptor and it appears my dash is when there was a face lift/dash change so may have what ever Land Rover had in the Bins!
I'll update this thread when I have some more answers, Thanks again Mike Hard Top 90 TD5 2001 Ford 100e 1959 www.youtube.com/mikemakesit |

Mike -
To clarify: my comments were aimed at using the OE Factory 2002 MY dash - there are after market options like 4RF RDS has, like the mud stuff and raptor consoles. My Td5 is 2001 like yours , but came with the 2002 MY features : the new centre console being part of that. That's not easy to put a double din in because of the moulding and so forth on that console. Info on that here : http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic46925.html If you don't have the later dash type, and don't want to retrofit it, then you can do it with the aftermarket options. Stephen |

The mudstuff console seems to be the cleanest but you only have the option of the short Alpine double din unit to make it fit.
I believe Antinok uses it frequently for the trucks they sell in NA. 1999 Defender 110 2003 P38 2007 RR SC "And that's why it needs to be celebrated, because when the Defender goes we'll have lost this pointer to where we came from, and we're really going to miss it." Hi,
I have a double-din in my TD5. An obscure piccie here : http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic47773.html I used a mud stuff console and have a Pioneer AVID 980 DAB fitted. |

Thanks for all the help and ideas. I am thinking of the Raptor route as they can do a custom one for my dash and looking at the pics they sent me it should work fine. Unfortunately the cash is going into the suspension system at the mo so it might be a few months until I fit it. I'll update this thread when I do.
Thanks again.. Mike Hard Top 90 TD5 2001 Ford 100e 1959 www.youtube.com/mikemakesit |
