Scotland 1997 Defender 110 300 Tdi HT Aintree Green
A couple of jobs done this evening:

I was intending to spend a few hours playing with the fuel pump to tune the thing up a bit. Access isn't great with the coolant reservoir in the way so that had to be removed first. Getting to the smoke screw was easy because there was no cap on the top - someone's been here before!

I screwed it back several turns and the smoking is now reduced quite a bit, although it's still there. I was going to move on to the diaphram by removing the cover which is secured by two large flat-head screws and to T27 bolts. However the flat-heads wouldn't budge. I've sprayed them with WD so might try again tomorrow.

Next job...

For the last few weeks I've noted what felt like a broken front spring, most noticable when turning right and returning the wheel to centre. I've checked all springs a few times and they're ok. Investigating more fully tonight I found this

The steering damper is completely unfixed at one end and the bracket has been fouling on the hole of the steering guard when returning from a right lock to centre Shocked With sufficient pressure his has been 'jumping out of the hole, giving the steering a shudder and making a bit of clunk.

Here's a better view

Needless to say it has now been removed. It's clearly an aftermarket item which may or may not have been properly installed. I'll do a separate thread to see what the good people of this forum think about it. Mid Life; Live It!
