£61 Sky Broadband deal
You may know about the current Sky Broadband deal, free BB + 1/2 price line rental and £50 cashback, making it £61 for the year.

My current BT line rental is up (my BB is BT Infinity too). Is there any reason why I cant use the Sky deal to get the cheap line rental, even if I don't use their broadband service, and continue with my BT Infinity service - which I really like...?

The prices from both will be dependent on you paying them for line rental - any broadband service without the line rental included will always cost a lot more, because it's just their way of achieving a lower headline price. Thumbs Up

If like me you have a mobile and reception at home...the you don't need a fixed landline... you may be able to get virgin broadband where you don't need a line... so much better - I'm on the test line and have 300mbs for £41 a month inc VAT... it is simply immense

Getting broadband into your home is such a joke, I'm on BT's most basic phone connection which is weekends only free calls and the line rental and the unlimited broadband as there's no cable or fibre optic options in our village, this costs me around £112 for every three months soon to go up a few quid.
Why you can't just have the line rental with broadband without the phone straight from the company that all the others have to use I don't know. In this day of mobile phones my house phone was chucked away years ago so I'm paying for a service I never use.

Indeed, and you see that the Sky offer (which is up tomorrow) includes LINE RENTAL...!

That's why I thought it a good deal as I need to renew my BT line rental.

I just wanted to know if I can buy the deal but just take advantage of the line rental without using the SKY broadband as I get much faster service from my BT Infinity.

See my point above about line rental & Sky (unlimited) broadband for £61. This is as recommended by Martin Lewis (if that's any help..!)

Our village (in the Peaks) has BT Infinity so I get 80mb download and 20mb upload (actually 63mb down & 18mb up - measured), but rubbish mobile signal so not having a fixed line is no option for us. Plus, you'd never get those speeds out of a 4G network even if it was available.

Yes, and in my area Sky sell BT wholesale connections. I'm going to call BT this morning and see what they say.

One answer I got from BT forum stated I needed a BT supplied line for BT Infinity, but no reason why...

So far, investigations with BT suggest that you can use another supplier for the line rental, however I believe that the Sky offer means you also have to actually switch your broadband to them. This would cancel the BT BB service. As I renewed the BT BB service in January there would be a cancellation charge.

It seems these deals are real lock-ins and don't work unless you are able to switch on the day of the deal..!

I guess that's what its all about, getting customers at that switch point, rather than just offering a better deal in general.

Ah well....£194 for BT line rental by the looks of it...Sad

You can also talk to BT about paying for line rental upfront for the year
It used to be a lot cheaper

This was going so well...!

I spoke (online chat) with a SKY advisor this morning who said I could take the £61 bundle but not activate the broadband part. I only failed when processing the order because I'd had Sky last year (Oct 2015 - cancelled) and the deal was only for new customers. They said call the "returning customer service team" who would fix that for me.

Then I spoke with the "returning customer service team" at SKY who contradicted the advice I got this morning that I could take the £61 bundle but not activate the broadband element. They said it wasn't possible.

Arrrrrgh....back to £194 renewal with BT for the line. !!!!!!...!
