I can't remember details, but the filler spout is different on the 300tdi to the td5. Obviously the td5 has a plastic tank with a lift pump vs the 300 with a metal tank and no lift pump.
I can't think why the tank wouldn't fit a 300 or older though. Impressive that you can get that much fuel in the rear wheel arch! |

Might just buy one and bodge it in then
![]() Impressive indeed, 45 litres! Therese also another one made by front runner, I think it goes under the driver side against the chassis. Anyway it holds 55 litres, imagine the fuel capacity with all three fuel tanks! 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon 1998 Land Rover Defender 110 County Station Wagon ~ Sold 1995 Land Rover Defender 110 V8 Station Wagon ~ Sold ![]() 1985 Land Rover 110 ex mod project Tithonus ~ Sold ![]() |

Imagine the fuel bill to fill all three
![]() Tempted to put an extra tank in mine one day, just having a comfortable 500 mile range with reserve would be nice. |

You wouldn't need to fill up as much though!
500 miles would be nice I bet, will need to be towing a cistern to achieve it with a Rover v8 though ![]() 1998 Land Rover Defender 110 County Station Wagon ~ Sold 1995 Land Rover Defender 110 V8 Station Wagon ~ Sold ![]() 1985 Land Rover 110 ex mod project Tithonus ~ Sold ![]() |

Stopping for fuel does provide a break for drivers though, a breath of fresh air and a bit of a walk about. With that much fuel it would be tempting to push and keep going, risking driving whilst over tired and the consequent mistakes that can and will occur, often to the detriment of someone else.
Just saying 😉 Mo The Land Rover 90 - Many are called, few are chosen. 50 Shades of Pennine Grey |

Hi Mo, I wonder what you would say about one of our ex 110 which had max 170 litres in the tanks?
![]() Seriously we take a break from driving every 2 -2.5 hours. Wing tanks. There is a change in fuel filler pipe between 50 and 60mm diameter pipe. Can not remember date change and which way the pipe size went. Not really a change you could adjust at home IMO safely/easily We can supply wing tanks for 200/300 TDi 110 5 door and 200/300 TDi 3 door plus same for TD5. Can be made in mild steel, stainless with or without a double skinned bottom. Brendan |

Brendan, I think if you drove non stop to use 170 litres of fuel, you'd end up with piles 😨

PMSL @ Mo
I would not be worried about piles, more concerned about wrapping the 110 around a tree or adjusting the crash barrier Sorry going OT Back to wing tanks now. Brendan |

You guys missed the part about it being a v8. The extra tank will take the time between fills from 90 minutes to 2 hours!

The early 300 tank may have different pick up, return and fill points.
Nothing that can't be overcome with a little thought. I'm about to head of for three weeks with some friends. 2 legs are 300 miles of dirt between fuel stops with a 5% chance of no fuel on arrival so another 50 mile to the next outlet. A lot of folk run long range tanks over here. Most are needed once a year on trips if at all. The rest of the year they take advantage of cheap fuel when it's available. Cheers, Kyle. |

You could always fit the under sill safari equip tanks. I have one for each side of a defender ready for the day when I do the big overland trip.

Yes, I'm also looking at the drivers side sill one made by Front runner. Couldn't find a seller though so I thought I'd start with a wheel arch one. 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon
