If you don't have a boost limit box then it will constantly trip into limp mode under load, as the ecu will see over boost which I'm sure would get very annoying! 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Mine is running an IRB 190bhp tune with a VGT turbo
I've got an allisport type boost box but nothing else... the MAP sensor never gives any issue. Only a couple of times in the last 4 or 5 years have I even had a "cough" where the engine cut out when booting it. Edit: forgot to add a full size intercooler too. Allisport. Mine is running a BAS tune. I already had an uprated intercooler when he tuned it, nothing else was changed. No boost box fitted or MAP sensor change and never had any issues.
Prior to Pete's magic and running a cheap bolt on module.... Now that was a whole different story Tony |

It will depend if the boost pressure has been altered too. My strong stage 2 IRB map with standard turbo used to trip the maf sensor. Now running Stage 3V with dual channel limit box with no issues 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

i I always wonder how JE get 190bhp out of their TD5 + remap with just the intercooler upgrade and a standard turbo, given IRB etc get 170bhp with the same set up. Still, not all about the number but the torque and power curves. 2002MY Defender 90 H/T |

I have to say, having driven a je tuned 90, IRB is leaps and bounds ahead in terms of drivability and refinement.
The je tuned defender I drove was so clattery, as if they'd over done the pulse width on the injectors and they were out of their operating parameters. I drove both before settling with irb and never looked back 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

The VGT doesn't give any more boost than a normal fixed blade turbo, it just spools up much quicker. I've got so used to driving my 110 now I don't realize how easy it is. I drove my parents old Td5 heap the other week, in standard tune, it was horrible..... boost was either on or off and gutless. |

That's really useful real world feedback thx - both are in Coventry and both have great reputations so was really struggling to decide...and don't have the time to try and drive examples of each.
IRB it is then! Sorry for the thread hi-jack btw! 2002MY Defender 90 H/T |

On the other LR forum there's a lot of good feedback for Dynachip remaps.
The guy comes to your home or wherever the vehicle is, and will do the remap there and then. After it's done you drive it and if there's any issues or smoke etc he will adjust it until you are happy. He charges around £250 and seems very well clued up on Defenders, he races a TD5. |

I'll just add, mike @ Dynachip is a great guy he has done 2 disco3's for me and 4 td5's for some of my mates, my latest td5 feels like it has been mapped however I will be getting mike to do it properly. Great value for money.
