EARLY LANDROVER 110 sailsbury axle shock mount HELP
Hiya chaps I've had a marslands chassis delivered, I've just realised my rear shock mounts location on the new chassis is different to my early 110 1983 ( original passenger shock mounts in front of the rear spring hanger on the chassis and the drivers side it mounts behind the spring hanger ) i know it's not as easy as drilling holes in the new chassis as there's no support behind but can i weld new lower shock mounts on the axle so the shocks both mount to the front as it is on more modern axles,, i can only find normal Landrover axle shock mounts, will they work or are they slightly different or is there lower shock mounts to fit sailsbury type that I've just not found yet ? ( or is it worth swapping it out for a later axle ) ?
Thanks Paul

Yes. This is the simple solution. It is possible to buy the lower shock mounts to weld on. Drain oil and pull shafts first obviously and simpley weld on new one and remove all traces of old one.

I would say drilling holes and welding in sleeves to new chassis is easier than doing a good strong weld on the old axle. When welding the old axle you also have to get the angle of the bracket correct which is not so easy when I have done it. On your old chassis you have information to make a template. 1995 300tdi Defender 90 P/UP

You have the bracket the other side of the axle to use for positional information on the tube. Drilling/welding a galvanised chassis would be less than ideal - think I'd go with the axle bracket. Though you need a fairly chunky welder as the metal is thick.

Must be a very early 110 as you say - any pics? Whistle

Looks great.

You've probably got a Discovery radiator frame, popular conversion when fitting a Disco 200Tdi using the donor vehicle frame. However as it is an inch and a half or so taller one has to cut the brackets down.

You'll need to either cut yours down or fit a Defender 200Tdi radiator, intercooler, and frame assembly.

I welded new mounts on my Salisbury axle - All the aftermarket replacement mounts available are not the same as the originals with the pressed lip on them - instead them are just folded metal without the lip as reinforcement.

I ended up plasma cutting two used shock mounts off another Salisbury with a knackered diff and welding them on mine.
