Alpine has come up with a CarPlay deck which is only 3" deep as apposed to 6.5" deep which a normal 2DIN deck has. (Does this by sacrificing the CD)
Does this change the possibilities of being able to install a double din on a 1999 TD5 110? http://alpine-usa.com/product/view/carplay-ilx-007 1999 Defender 110 2003 P38 2007 RR SC "And that's why it needs to be celebrated, because when the Defender goes we'll have lost this pointer to where we came from, and we're really going to miss it." It's possible to get a standard double DIN into the later Td5 dash with a bit of hacking about, this one would certainly make it easier
Not sure how you'd get it to look right in the older style dash though (with the angled radio fitment) |

What about a mud console? I've seen a few double din installs in those.

Looks like the mud stuff front doesn't do double din after all : http://www.mudstuff.co.uk/td5-facia-plate.html

Measure twice, cut once
I bought the single DIN, and enlarged the hole to fit |

Yea looks like I would have to cut the dash.
Option 1) wait for a single Din flip screen to have CarPlay. Option 2) wait for the 2003 to be legal in Canada (2018). 1999 Defender 110 2003 P38 2007 RR SC "And that's why it needs to be celebrated, because when the Defender goes we'll have lost this pointer to where we came from, and we're really going to miss it." raptor offer a steel conversion plate which looks a lot more professional than cutting the standard panel.
http://www.raptor-engineering.co.uk/produc...ion-panel/ I dont know about the distances behind though... |

Wow - that looks good. Though it seems to be saying on the website that it fits over the standard dash rather than instead of it ..

What's happening in that photo Ray?
It doesn't look like the raptor one - but it hasn't got the recessesed area at the bottom that the standard dash has? |

It's not mine, when I was looking into double din about 5 years ago I came across this build on an American site. They've taken a standard late td5 dash and plastic welded a panel in for the double din to fit to then re painted which is the way I'd go if I were doing it. It looks much neater and more factory.
