110 Side Frame Assemblies - can of worms or not too bad?
1995 110 S/W 300tdi
Hi,
My side frames are looking pretty rusty along the underside and up the angled bit at the back.
The uprights/pillars look sound though.

I'm thinking it's probably a good time to get this sorted before it gets too bad.

A lot of owners seem to weld in new metal to fix however I've noticed the cost of the entire assembly seems pretty reasonable @ around £250 a side.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261870191980 (part No ALR5314) for example.

I just don't have the time, space or tools to tackle this myself.
Anyone got a rough idea of how much time would be involved and likely cost if I was to get this done by a pro?

Also (this is where the can of worms comes in) would it be a good time to replace the rear body cappings and floor panels which are showing their age?
I'm guessing the roof needs to be raised to get the frames in so the cappings would be exposed at the time(?)
Any help/advice/recommendations appreciated. Cheers,
Andy...

You can just do the B and C posts without having to take the roof off, Trying to find the thread but a Canadian chap on here did it very recently

FOUND IT

As for the cappings yes the roof will have to come off for that. Its on my to do list too but I am saving up for a new roof before I do that as mine is at the end of its life Big Cry Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

It was much easier to do than I had anticipated. Wasn't in my original plan, but once my doors were off, it looked like it would only be a couple more hours work to get there, and that was about it.

If you go that route, it's SO worth galvanizing them, they won't ever rust again. it's a Landrover thing...

All good info, thanks guys.
Not sure I'm brave enough to tackle it by myself though Smile Cheers,
