This started last year, a friend of mine suggested we take part in the PureRally London to Barcelona rally, which essentially is Road rally much the same as gumball and other similar style Road rally events. Initially I was going to take my 911 turbo, but I ended up selling it and frankly it probably wasn't going to get three adults down to Barcelona, followed by a week in the south of France so,back to the drawing board.... I bought a beautiful 90 tdci, but it just wasn't quite me and I sold it shortly after spending a fortune on it....
Along came a 2010 110 usw, Perfect, but totally standard. The day I picked it up, I fitted the urban truck grill set and that was how it remained for 6months. Then our busy period at work happened and all plans went on hold until now. As advertised: The grill fitted: Click image to enlarge Then urban truck had a sale on and I bought a new bumper as mine was rusted out and bent, also fitted a nudge bar: Click image to enlarge A few weeks ago I thought I'd better get on with the build as the rally date drew ever closer. So my first priority was sorting the interior. It was clean but bog standard cloth with the cream headliner. It was at this point I started speaking to Phil Bahfir at oem landrover www.oemlandrover.co.uk he was incredibly helpful, not interested in pushing anything on you and was incredibly patient whilst I dithered and changed my mind. Eventually I went with premium seats in lunar as well as matching rear seat. This was bought as the conversion so I had to convert them myself. I also got a matching cubby and black headliner and visors. It's all OE so the quality is perfect. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Very happy and also very comfortable! The rear seat was next and it's a lot more involved, but still pretty straightforward. By this point my hands were struggling with all the pulling and manipulating of the covers... Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge At the same time, I also placed an order with Colin, at http://www.deadening.co.uk/ who sorted me out a comprehensive kit for the 110 using Silent Coat. I've used it before and it's just as good as dynamat in my opinion but a considerable amount cheaper! So one morning at 4am after a 10hr shift at work, without any slept we started laying the tiles and installed the headlining. 17hrs, flat out later we accomplished this: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge There is matting to go ontop yet on the floor and utility sides as well as the under bonnet stuff. I'd been searching, forever for a set of 18's, I had kind of decided on a set of Silverline mantas, until two days before I was going to purchase them a set of 5 bowlers with bf's came up at a fair price.. Saving a much needed £600, which went on a roof rack... But more about that in a minute... Click image to enlarge I wanted a patriot rack from the start. I had one years ago on my first 90 td5 and it was seriously well made. My budget was going to let me stretch to a flatdog, at a discounted price and I was happy with that, however as if by magic literally within 3 days of the wheels I had this from Pete Bell.... Now I was on a roll One patriot roof rack Click image to enlarge I've not fitted it yet as I'm considering powder coating it to match the paintwork. Having had a few issues surfacing around the drive train it was now onto making it reliable. I spoke to Ben at Truckfix http://www.truckfixclutches.com/ and a new ceramic clutch was bought, these guys are brilliant and their products are great quality! Click image to enlarge Next up, I spoke to a few people about tuning, I thought I'd made my mind up until I spoke to Kerem at JE engineering http://jemotorworks.co.uk/ after a few conversations I opted for the tune+ package which includes nee intercooler, filter and remap, this is happening this coming week so no pictures just yet. Also on the cards in the next two weeks, will be an ashcroft atb and an ashcroft upgraded output shaft. More updates very soon including the double din install. Great build, those wheels make such a difference and look just spot on!
I was tempted with that rack off Pete but turned it down, another decision I'm sure to regret! Thanks, it's gradually coming together now!
Rack still not on and I have the steering gaurd at the coaters. This was my most recent project. Slapped some paint on it for now to use for the trip, but will get it flocked when I get back: Click image to enlarge Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

Hello
Did you do the tints yourself, how easy / hard was it? whats the technique. Company near me can do them but booked up until end of August and I left it too late for summer hols. I can buy the complete kit for £50 or so self fit... I just worry it will have bubbles everywhere and look naff Trucks looking great are the seats more comfortable do they have more side support? Thanks |

Indeed I did do the tinting myself. Once I'd done the one side the drivers side windows took me 20mins tops.
I cleaned them inside and out and used plenty of soapy water and a filler spreader, found it very easy. But then I deal with ptfe at work on complex patterns so not sure if that helped or not. The seats don't give anymore support, unlike the recaros, but they are incredibly comfortable. After driving over 2200 miles 1100 of those in one go, I could still walk and felt comfortable all the way!! |

Love this, well done. Phil at OEM is I feel the only guy to work with now for leather work, I have been talking with him for nearly a month now! I plan to do a few rallies myself. Andy
