E-mailed them about the offer price stuff...
Dodo Dead Mat Black is our economy sound deadening product with good performance characteristics, excellent value for money and a discrete black finish. In comparison with Silent Coat 2mm it has 3.55 sq m per box compared to Silent Coat 4 sqm. Performance wise the Silent Coat has better adhesion superior deadening and generally is easier to apply. Landrover 110 - we recommend approx 3 rolls for a comprehensive treatment. Adding a layer of acoustic foam will improve performance of all deadening products I think I'm going to go with Silent coat plus the foam |

I bought the amount of foam they recommended for a 110 and had no where near enough.
It was something like 3 boxes of Silent Coat and 3 rolls of Dodo mat. Doing the floor in the back, the walls and the roof has used 2.5 packs of the Silent Coat. The Dodo mat ran out after doing the side panels and the roof above the driver only. |

I used 3.5 boxes of tiles. 4 full boxes including behind the door cards. My utility is now completely covered everywhere in the tiles.
The matting, I cut my own kit for and used it on the floors only. I had enough to do the entire floor, Inc the tubs. The only sound proofing I have left to do is the under bonnet stuff. Which came supplied in the kit from Colin. Last edited by N16kct on 1st Jun 2016 10:36am. Edited 1 time in total |

Sounds like a silent coat group buy could be on the cards!
I'm confused - the dodomat acts as a sound insulation layer over the silent coat? What other sounds insulations layers sound I think about applying over silent coat? V useful thread btw. 2002MY Defender 90 H/T |

4mm can be used on the roof as it provides extra mass and is generally beneficial on the panels that are prone to 'boom'. Also OK for bonnet use for the same reasoning. Additional bonnet treatment is available with Silent Coat Buffler 20 an acoustic foam that helps reduce engine roar.
http://www.silentcoat.co.uk/products/silent-coat-noise-buffler-20 A suggestion for treatment as follows. 2mm + 4mm to be applied to most panels at 50% coverage for economical results. 100% blanket coverage is beneficial only on panels adjacent to noise producing elements eg. wheelarches, bulkheads etc where the vibrodamping material also provides a sonic barrier. Colins tailored suggestion (this is the option I went for) 2 Bulk Packs 2mm - 8sqm 2 Bulk packs 4mm - 4sqm 2 Rolls MLV - 5 sqm 2 Buffler 20 - 1.8sqm |

That's really helpful N16kct - thanks. Silencoat based in Oxfordshire so not too far away either. I'll give them a call to see what they recommend for a 90 hardtop. 2002MY Defender 90 H/T

Ok so almost clicking to buy 2mm stuff,
Just checked on Amazon and Ebay and Silent coat seems best to get from Silent-coat themselves, Incorrect spelling on the bay brought this up though? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ALUBUTYL-2-2mm-2...SwubRXFSjI 50cm X 5m roll @ 2.2mm thick = £72 although I think that works out at 2.5sq meters cover? |

After I ran out of Dodos, I stuck a load of 8mm foil backed closed cell foam over the Silent Coat on my roof. It's amazing home much difference it makes to condensation. I've woken up on a cool morning (single digits) with my windows accidentally left closed to find the bare Silent Coat wet with condensation but the foam feeling warm and dry. |

I've recently done the rear of my puma 90 hard top.
I used one bulk pack of 2 mm silent coat to do the floor, wheel boxes, and side panels. Then a layer of silent coat isolator 6 on the floor and wheel boxes, and isolator 10 on the side panels. To finish off, a genuine rubber load space mat on the floor ( it just fits on top, but could be considered by some to be too 'squashed' in). And for the sides I made plywood covers, wrapped in cheap automotive carpet off eBay. It certainly makes a big difference, but by comparison, I previously drove it 50 motorway miles, with just the rubber mat on the floor, but the back filled to the roof with plants and shrubs, and they had a bigger effect in reducing noise! |

So today I made the choice,
2mm silent coat bulk packs bought to try on the doors, front seat area and rear boot / arches together with a 6mm foam deadening material to go on top. Maybe just me, but closing the doors today they seemed more like an empty tin can than normal so hopefully this stuff should make them sound better Now I need a roller to pad them down and my stainless sills have just arrived in time for me to do this sound proofing and fit them |
