I am pretty sure that for your year the rear door pre-dates the move to a rubber seal (unless of course its not an original door). Your door should have the glass held in place by sealant and aluminium angles.
I am not sure about the difference in thickness but I would have thought with the above mentioned fitting method there is enough tolerance to handle either thickness. |

Early TD5 had the 'old' style two piece door bonded together with a bonded glass.
The 'new' style one piece steel door with a proper rubber seal mounted glass was fitted from late 2002 onwards. Later one [with a seal] has the 5mm glass HTH Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |

Also the older style rear door window has squared lower corners, the later (rubber set) ones have a rounded profile.
