1989 Ninety CSW - Update: 8 cylinders
After nearly 6 months of ownership I have finally come round making a thread. Some of you may recognise this from a post a few months back regarding boosts on a Ninety.

I had been looking for a Defender for my first car for a few years. This popped up and was exactly what I was looking for (and was within my budget more importantly!). The last owner took great care of it and forked out a fair sum on it over the 11 years they owned it. It also got a very high quality respray 2 years ago which makes it look as good as new. The chassis and bulkhead is solid but I still have ambitions of stripping it right down and doing a nut and bolt rebuild on a new galvanised chassis one summer.

Getting on for 27 years old, it looked a tad tired and faded. When I got it home, the bumper, front grill and light surrounds were whipped off and painted. The result was incredible, transformed the look of the front:

I ordered a new set of sidelight and indicator lenses and a LR badge for the grill to finish the front off.
The next big issue to tackle was the wheels/tyres. A quick test drive with a sat nav to get an accurate speed reading confirmed the tyres were too small and so the speedo was over-reading (not to mention I hated the look of the alloys it had on). I thought I wanted a set of boosts, and was spoilt for choice with an array of take-offs for sale; however, many thanks to Charcoal for suggesting a set of Wolfs. After yet more hours of trauling eBay, a tidy set came up for a very good price. The tyres are General Grabbers ATs 235/85/16, almost new so plenty of tread.

So pleased with the results. I think it looks much better (and more unique) than a set of boosts. As for the spare, I bought an ex-MOD steel wheel off our local military LR specialist (Market Weighton). It was of course in Nato green so I sanded it down and painted it white by hand.

For the eagle-eyed ones among you, you will notice another LR badge and "Defender" lettering on the back. I know it's not technically a Defender, but that panel looked a bit bare without the lettering.

The final mod to date: A set of OEM rear mudflaps (ouch! They are expensive!! Big Cry ). Only slight issue is they look way too new! Although I should be able to fix that problem Very Happy . I think the back looks much more complete and

Next on the list: Audio. There's currently no speakers or a head unit installed so that will be one for the summer (funds permitting!)

Obviously looking forward to being able to take my test and drive it on the road in just under a year's time! Thumbs Up Matt.

Well done.

Don't forget to put aside some money, to keep the mechanicals top notch.
There's plenty of older defenders out there, with lots of kit on, that rarely get serviced or looked after. 2002 td5 90 county hardtop

Unfortunately not. The only licence I can get at 16 is a provisional tractor licence which obviously doesn't help me with my landy Sad . At least I can still ride in it as my dad uses it to drive into town and other local trips. Matt.
