Soundproofing DIY Question
Hello all DIYers.

Quick question on sound proofing a 110SW for those who have tackled it. Is it necessary to get new carpet (my SW already has OE carpet fitted) or is there enough 'play' in the carpet to re-lay the original? Looking to tackle the work myself, but want to know if I need to buy a new carpet set or if I can use what I already have? For info, Dynamat will be the brand of insulation used.

Top tips welcomed, ta Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

The only problem I had was around the front seat box. You can stretch the carpet as it's not exactly Wilton. I found the contact adhesive I used didn't adhere to the foil backing very well but this may just have been that particular brand. The original carpet was attached with double sided adhesive tape around the seat box, maybe I should have tried that. Thumbs Up I started with nothing and still have most of it left!

Merci bien. Thumbs Up

So no real need to blow £300 on new carpet. Or at least give it a go and see how it pans out? Monsieur Le Grenadier

Id see how your old carpet comes off first, while ive been laying cables for the sub some of the seat box carpet is stuck well and felt like it was going to rip if pulled too hard.

On my 90 the carpet did tear - although that was 15 years old ...

I didn't go with the silver stuff on the box one the basis that the surfaces are relatively rigid and didn't seem to drum - so I tired just the closed cell foam. (I'd used both in the back).

I then fitted the LR heavy rubber seat box cover - which fitted over the foam quite nicely. Having had the back done for a while - it was noticeable how much of a difference the foam made.

I think i must be going deaf! is the noise from a puma defender that bad?Has anybody done any proper sound measurments? Is soundproofing parts of the defenfer not a recipe for hiding the damp and rust especially if its stuck down to say the footwells!can you buy stuff that is removable.

Avec plaisir. Bow down

That was my thoughts before buying a new carpet to see how easy the carpet was to remove, I'm not sure if the double sided tape is how the carpets were installed in the factory (never had a Defender with carpet before, how posh is that?) but it held the carpet in place remarkably well. Thumbs Up I started with nothing and still have most of it left!

Agreed. However this is for a client who has just bought a chalet and wants the Defender for clients/guests (all part of the Alpine image, although in her defence, she loves Defenders anyway). She wants it to be quieter and more comfortable, plus for the cabin to warm a little easier when it's -20c. She will never, ever go off road, bar the gravel carpark at the ski lifts... Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

Agree with the contact adhesive comment. Screwfix spray adhesive didn't adhere very well to the silent coat foil top layer.
