Howling moon vs ARB awning
Ok, so my howling moon 2.1 awning has finally given up the ghost after 10 years use and abuse.

I could get another 2.1 (cheapest option) which would probably finally allow my side wall set to fit properly (my awning pre-dates the lower sides/Velcro option to secure to side walls) - the walls were a later addition by about 3 years. Or upgrade to a 2.5 howling moon to provide a wee bit more space (wall kit would need to be replaced though - are these available for the 2.5?)

On the other hand - I like the idea of an awning room. Has any one any experience of the ARB awning and awning room combination? I'd like some idea on quality, practicality and ease of use of these. Are they a faff to put up? Does the rear door line up with a defender rear passenger door (that's where I access clothes boxes)

Currently, my side walls see very little use. UK based trips they tend to get bunged on (unless we are blessed with sunny weather Rolling with laughter ). Abroad, however, they rarely get used so I see the awning room idea as one that would be more likely used when I want the better insulation and draft free environment on a UK trip.

Off to Norway in 4 weeks and would ideally like to be sorted by then. My awning 'failed to proceed' last weekend Big Cry

Would also recommend the HW as a quality piece of kit. A growing number of options though so worth searching on previous posts re Tuff Trek etc

Yep, think you guys are right. My current awning has provided ten years of service so I guess I'll stick with HW. I can get the same size (as I have the walls to suit) and then just get a back wall to give me a full room option.

Now trek or flatdog.... Let's see who has the best price (and stock) Very Happy

Tony, just going through the same dilemma about awnings, did you go for HM in the end and if so who did the best deal?

Hi. Best deal on HM is, without a doubt, Flat Dog. Unfortunately they are out of stock on 2.1m awnings at the moment Sad . They have 2.5s in stock but that would mean I had to replace my front/side panels as well, so not a cheap option.

I've done a temporary repair which will hopefully see me through my next trip (Norway in about 3 weeks) then I'll look again - perhaps a long trip to the SW 4x4 show in August with a few days in the New Forest on the way home is in order Smile

Flat Dog were over £100 cheaper than their rivals (who did have stock Rolling with laughter )

Any or just roof bars. I did see that it said for mounting the tent on a defender the ladder extension piece was needed Russell
