Starting to look like a Land Rover again, most of the body work is now in place, loosely bolted together, next job is to try and line up all the panels nice and straight.
Rear tub was a bitch to fit, it didn't help that there were discrepancies in the manufacture of the chassis and some of the brackets won't fit. ![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge Installed a new steel fuel tank and gave it a couple of coats of Dinitrol before fitting it to the chassis, only temp in as I hadn't ordered a new set of nut plates to fix the tank to the rear crossmember. ![]() Connected up the fuel lines, installed a battery and to my disbelief the engine turned over first turn of the key, good old 300tdi ![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge |

Well this has moved on a bit from when I last looked!
Nice progress, what made you go with the pick up in the end? Any idea on colour? |

Cheers Clayton
![]() Christian will be painting it the original colour which was red, Decided on a pick up for number of reasons Parts to convert to a station wagon are mad money (which was my preferred option and may happen some time in the future) I Like the look of a red Pick up with a tan coloured canvas. Perfect for the dogs and other wet gear etc. The truck cab is quieter and heats up quicker on a winters morning. And a hell of a lot less painting to do ![]() |

Looking well now!
Got to say i've fitted a few Richards chassis and the fit and finish has left a bit to be desired, sticking to Marsland or genuine old stock. The Agent for here is a prick too which doesn't help either :rolllaugh |

I like the gantry crane! Great idea that. Care to share some costs and what materials you built it from? Sort of thing I could see myself making sometime in the future if I ever do a full rebuild.

Been a while since I have updated, so here we go
Lots of little bits done , rear cappings, brake lines, lights, axle breathers etc.etc. Had to solder the rear loom back together as the Autosparks one I have on order has a 3month waiting list ![]() Fitted the rear Tailgate using YRM stainless fittings, again top notch... Reached a major milestone...got to drive it last weekend....Had it out for about 30mins, I must admit that first real push of the accelerator pedal was a bit nerve racking, what did I forget to tighten, but was impressed at how tight it was, temp gauge sat nicely to the left of centre, and no odd noises in the drive train ![]() Now to source a pair of doors and we are good to paint ![]() The scabby Ifor top is only a temp measure to keep the rain out, well most of it !! ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge |

Nice. Great when it all looks in one piece and there are no 'chunks' of Defender lying around waiting to be fitted!
Love the 'gallows' ![]() |

Sure is Clayton...
Fitted a set of Rock sliders today, installed the headlining and tidied up the wiring in the cab, new number plates and front grill. Starting to see the finishing line now.......except for that nagging feeling that I should paint it Nato Green instead of Portfino Red....Hmmmm ![]() Click image to enlarge |
