I'm afraid this is fairly common, it's called short rate cancellation.
Assume you paid in full at the beginning of the policy? If doesn't usually apply if you pay monthly which to me doesn't seem fair! -2015 Defender 90 XS Landmark- |

No it was monthly through a broker but in the insurers terms. Back with the nfu now with the 110 who I had previously been with for years and had no issues

Have you checked to see if your 110 insurance policy has the same clause? If not, you could cancel that policy, get a refund, and transfer the other policy over to the 110.....
