TD5 110 CSW refurbishment thread
Just embarking on my 110 refurb. Thought in true Defender2.net style that I'd catalogue my trials and tribulations for me to look back at but also for others to use as they see fit. I bought my 110 18/12 ago and love it. It received a fair bit of external modification at the time but little was done to the interior.
I have read thru various threads on here giving me plenty of inspiration and ideas.
It fair to say will need help and advice along the way!!

Plans:

fix/solve numerous leaks - they seriously annoy me now and I don't subscribe to the "landys leak" thing! we shall see.
full dash upgrade to centre console, flip out radio/satnav, centralise switches etc
various electrical upgrades and mods some of which i will do and others will need someone far brainier than me
soundproof/insulate throughout
change seats from current green old CSW/exmoor trims modulars to new black leather Puma setup including modifying the second row to take them safely and possibly rear wheel arch mod and folding rear seats too
headliner refurb - ? light or dark.
all grey fascias sprayed black
etc etc etc

Thanks for following

Mark

found that heater vent box was blocked with thick mud and water collecting. May account for some damp coming in!

Worryingly found that the seat catch that holds my son's seat in place was badly corroded and held on with 2 broken rivets and 2 plastic tree plug thingys and practically came off in my hand.

so, so far leaks appear to be coming from the windscreen brackets, mostly right flap vent, through the rusted area on vertical footwell panel in drivers side, possibly between the joins in the panels themselves, water coming from the seal around the actual windscreen itself in drivers side corner. This was changed last year after it got damaged an I remember seeing some water in the windscreen frame when the old window was removed. Possibly upper front drivers door seal.

Censored Shocked

I need to embark on a similar exercise on mine. It will not leak by the time I'm done! I also have very similar corrosion on the seat bracket, unfortunately it's right in the spray from the rear wheel. I plan to cut out all the bad, bond & rivet a new sheet in then plaster it with dinitrol.

Hi Miker, part of my plan is to fit rear puma second row seats so the front of the TD5 rear wheel arch needs modifying to lower the angle. Hopefully this can be incorporated. Also have a look at Gywnlewis 4x4 as he now sells a splash guard mod for the front of the rear arch. I have one for the rear of the front and rear arches but not fitted as yet. Hopefully that will protect my footwell better as that rust spot will only get worse unless sort it quickly.

Was your 110 converted by ruggedguide 4x4 liverpool by any chance? Think I've seen some of your pictures before, think it was a heritage before its transformation if it the one I think it is. Lovely looking motor though.

Yes, was one of Frasers incarnations although he didn't spend as much time on it as was a part-ex and he just wanted to get it done and moved on. I originally spec'd a 90 full refurb but changed my mind half way through to a 110 and he just happened to be making a 110 Nighthawk as he calls them. Leaked like a sieve since I got it though. lots of green inside which I'm going to paint where visible.

few questions for the collective.

I have a MY2000 CSW (Jan registered) TD5. I have aftermarket heated screen and seats fitted.(extra cables running around the car not that well placed) No central locking. No electric windows or headlight levellers. I have located the headlight level plug in the central dash which may be useful when towing. Assume there will be connectors near the headlights to plug into headlight levelling motors should I fit them.

Is there any chance that wiring may exist for any of the above to tap into at this early stage of the Td5 or did this occur in 2002? I would love to fit central locking to all five doors and have them work via the key fob which I would like to be an all in one ignition/door lock set up. I will have to change the ignition barrel and door barrels and I think also the door handles for that matter. Ive read that the alarm can dictate if central locking will integrate. I understand that I could change the alarm unit to a more modern one ending in 80 rather than 70. My front doors are older ones I believe however the rear door is more modern for its age.

I'm planning on fitting newer full or half leather front heated seats so will need to run cabling to switches to be fitted in MUD console. Ideally OEM or Carling switches to match others that are planned.

Any help appreciated as despite lots of reading online much of this is double-dutch to me at the moment!!!!! Thanks

In my 1999 TD5 CSW I have the wiring for the headlight levellers, but nothing (that I've found!) for central locking or heated seats or the like.
