Reversing Sensor Recommendations
I came across this parking sensor system and thought it looked pretty neat.... Has anybody any experience with it or can recommend a suitable alternative?

Looks OK to me, though in my opinion it needs a little refinement in the distance setting, the continuous tone should be a little more than one foot when you consider that the rear mounted spare wheel sticks out nearly that distance. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

That was my hesitation as well... not TOO bad if its just the tow bar but the wheel isn't far from 1ft wide as it is!

Hi,

I bought a cheap as chips 2 sensor system from maplins.
As I have a NAS step fitted I used an idea blatantly stolen from Urban Truck and mounted the 2 sensors in the rubber bungs for the high lift jack points.
Very discrete and looks factory fit. Defender Puma 110XS SW

This looks to be the same kit being sold by LRI for £150 inc VAT.

But, what is odd is that the video (and other images by various other sellers) shows the mudflaps set back from the rear cross member. Mine are flush which would prevent you from fitting this kit.

I'm confused. Are there two mounting points for the rear mudflaps?

Just a very polite warning, many a commercial vehicle driver has been prosecuted (quite rightly), for reversing over pedestrians.Commercial vehicle drivers are expected to be even MORE aware. If you need sensors to reverse up to a large, very obvious wall, you ain't gonna see a pedestrian.

Also, as a commercial vehicle driver, you could be (quite rightly)expected to use a banksman for reversing,it's what the law says!!. Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

I need one of those, the wife. Her reversing is getting costly. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.

Barney12 - thank you! I'll have a look on LRI Thumbs Up

Ref reversing skills.

Totally agree and these would more be for assistance rather than a total reversing dependency tool! As the Defender will be used as an everyday vehicle (work, commuting, shopping, etc) they just come in very handy so as to avoid little knocks in otherwise confined spaces.

"Reverse slowly, get someone to guide you if you cannot see clearly"...A Defender you say??
A direct quote from the highway code, reversing sensors do not give you "clear vision",ever. Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

Jimbob, I'll take your advice.

I'll hire a helper to sit in the truck - just in case I decide to nip to the shops - so he can jump out and help and back up on bite Thumbs Up

Seems far more logical than installing some sensors to help with day to day driving!

Should I dare ask you for advice on security?

/\/\/\Like you say, elf'n'safety, who needs it Thumbs Up ?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/241...crash.html

Sgt Judith Kent, of Lincolnshire police, said cars like the Warrior were "commercial vehicles" and warned drivers should not reverse them on their own.
She said: "Anybody driving a vehicle like that shouldn't be reversing unaided when they can't see what's behind them. They should seek assistance.
