I've read a few threads about it, but the symptoms were more that the light wouldn't come on in Auto. Mine they stay on.
The bulb housings themselves were like new, but yeah from all accounts I think a roof excursion is called for before I remove the 10AS... Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants... |

A chance I have fixed this MOFO.
Was about to pull down headlining and first step was to remove rear interior light, I touched it and the fault went away. Suspicious. I figured out how it works, you got three lines in there, GND, +12V and the 10AS unit 'input': ON connects 12V to GND via the bulb. Auto connects 12V to the 10AS via the bulb. OFF connects 12V to a nice air gap via the bulb. In my case the run of copper from the 10AS via the connector to the switch was bent upwards towards the mounting plate that also serves as the GND connection. It juuuust touches, especially once it's been installed, the nuts tightened and you drive over a bump. This means that the 10AS was being bypassed for the most part and 12V was going directly to GND, but as the connection was only slight (i.e. a bit of resistance) it served as a kind of parallel circuit - this is why I could see the light change when I opened and closed the door, i.e. the 10AS still drained a little bit of the current. Solution = tape over the run of copper and she's good to go, in hindsight it would have been easier to tape the GND plate, but that's what you get when you're effin' over it. The connection is right there to be made, with nothing but air between the two lines it's means that given time, and barring other faults it's almost bound to occur.
Pretty much, you're relying on how well the track/line was pushed into the plastic conduit in manufacturing. That having been whined, seems like I'm at the far end of the bell curve (?) - there's not many other people discussing my symptoms online... Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants... |
