The truck I drive at work is a very late 110 hcpu and that also goes really well. When looking through the service book a slip of paper fell out saying that the engine was 150 hp with more torques.
It has done 3500 miles now and does quite a bit of towing and is going better all the time, puts a smile on your face. Nick |

I have a MY2015 90xs with 4000 miles on the clock it drives like a brick its hard to describe but on the flat fourth gear starts to struggle at about 26-28 mph any incline and you are changing down to 3rd...I dont know how many of the 125bhp its using!
.....it almost feels like your driving with the brakes on..Im a weekend warrior so not many miles on the clock i would like folks view on vibration at idle is there a vibration felt on the floor by your feet as I might be imagining the change as the cab does appear noisier and more vibration felt at your feet also from new.....also as im not used to the puma engine when you accelerate (hardish)is the sound from the engine a little like the exaust manifold has a slight leak a sort of effeminate throaty sound......is this normal? On the piece of paper in the handbook stating 150bhp i think they were put in all handbooks but only apply to some of the specials trucks!...Autobiography ect you need to check your registration docs as the true value will be on there...unless of course there has been a cockup at landrover ..now that never happens does it also a cheap diagnostic tool may give you your actual values but more knowledgable folk on here will advise you about this!I suppose you could ask the dealer at your next service but if its the wrong map for your truck they might have the right to revert it to the correct map? |

Some of the latest models do actually have 150 HP, without any remarks in the official documents. I know from a guy in Germany who had his one (just a standard MY15, nothing related to Autobiography) tested on a dyno. The test resulted in 148HP altough his papers said it should have only the standard 122 HP. This is quite strange though, as in most countries like Italy, Austria, France etc. insurance and taxes are calculated according to the engine power of a vehicle. I can hardly imagine, that this is legal, even if it was the manufacturer who silently "remapped" the Defender. . _____

A few have commented about the difference, same here, my brand new 2016 feels very different to my 2012, a lot more refined, smoother, quicker, dare I say lost a bit of it's charm though... not as rough as it was!

Didn't I hear somewhere that there were a lot of non Adventure Defenders that we're mis-mapped to 150bhp at the factory? ISTR that LR weren't admitting to this but had instructed dealers to re-map to standard on first visit to them? 2019 MY Disco 5 HSE Lux

I almost thought it was perhaps in my head. But my wife has commented it's without a doubt quicker. The engine also sounds different when building up the revs from low down. Appears to be a turbo spooling sound before the revs of the engine take over. Might get it put on the local rolling road 2015 90SW Heritage MY16, 2016 90SW XS MY16 (123rd b4 the last build) & RRS HSE MY15

Sorry to spoil the party guys, but I believe it's all "placedo".
There were NO 150hp tunes put into "ordinary" Defenders. I say "NO", but of course funny things can happen, & I sure ain't saying that they didn't,...but rarely, & by mistake. However, if someone tells me that they've got 150HP, simply because of their "bum dyno", than I will always be sceptical. To date, I have yet to hear any claim of 150HP in an "ordinary" defender backed up by FACT,...ie a dyno sheet. If I was claiming such, the first thing I would do, for myself at least, would be to prove it on the rollers, & provide a copy of the dyno sheet. Until that can be produced, I say,....."It didn't happen". Pickles. |

Here's the copy of the dyno sheet from the German guy mentioned before. It shows 148.5 HP and a max. torque of 366 Nm at about 2.300 revs for a standard non-Autobiography MY15 Defender 110.

BHP up from 122 to 148 (engine - not wheels) (wheels noted as 87kW)
Torque up to 366Nm (normal = 360Nm) So it seems as an increase in engine BHP only - which is strange - as one would expect an increase in torque to at least 400Nm - also. |

We picked up our MY16 90 over the weekend and it drives completely differently to the previous MY13 110.
It's not subtle at all or a placebo. The throttle response is smoother at low revs and light throttle opening. As others have commented, you can hear the turbo spooling up and the engine is quieter and smoother. Having just got the BAS 170AB tune the difference is amazing and is much like you describe. The manual certainly suggests it has the BAS150AB even though it's a non-special addition model?
I guess the only concern is you insure it correctly. Ps photos please and well done on getting one of the last!! When we viewed the new one I got the wife to test drive it to see how she got on with a 90. She said afterwards that it felt completely different and that I would be really impressed when I tried it. It was the quickest daft car purchase approval ever! |
