Sounds like the ignition switch needs replacing. If you replace the whole barrel lock assembly, you will need new keys so only replace that if you barrel lock is worn.
Same symptoms on mine, the radio has no power and is turn on to a 1 hour operation mode. As for the A/C you may find that the A/C switch and system still works as evidenced by the light on the switch but it is rather the blower motor switch that is not getting power hence no air from the vents. quick question whisky..do you keep your defender ignition key on a ring with a lot of other keys? Heavy weight on the key can cause premature wear inside the barrel...
