Brake bleeding, corroded?
been a couple of years since had the brake fluid changed on the tdci so thought whilst it's in having it's clutch done, will ask the indie to do it.

Reports back that the rear bleed nipples are corroded solid into the caliper...would probably require new calipers to remove them.

So for now I've left it but i'm curious as to if there's any other way of replacing fluid/bleeding without needing to remove the bleed screws? I had it done by a main dealer maybe 2-3 years ago and there was no problem. I can't imagine that in 2 years they've become corroded in solid.

In the workshop manual it's quoted that 'purpose built pressure bleed/refill equipment is suitable for use', does this not require access to the caliper bleed nipples? If so i'll take it along to a stealer to be done, save spending money on calipers

Bleeding must be done via the bleed nipples, since they are located at the highest point on the calipers.

I have on one occasion many years ago emergency bled brakes by slackening the pipe union on the caliper, but (a) this won't usually bleed the caliper itself so you may well have a spngey pedal and (b) is usually a problem since if the nipples are corroded, then generally so too is the pipe.

It is rare that a bleed nipple is so corroded that it cannot be removed, but not unheard of. If it will come out, a new nipple can be fitted. If it really won't come out, you need new calipers.

Scotland 
Soak in wd40 every day for a week then use a socket not a spanner to remove. Once out clean the hole with a tap and replace with a new nipple

Use a 6-point socket rather than a 12, too.

Time to change garage if they can't loosen bleed nipples on brake calipers that were only installed 35 years ago!! Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

Thanks for response I'll work on it this week.

Appreciate it looks bad by the mechanic, but tbf to the guy the car had been in for a new clutch and he was aware I wanted it back asap and also had spent a large amount of money on labour already.
I'm sure he was capable of removing but to get it back for the weekend didn't.
