[SOLD] 1966 Series 2A V8
Land Rover Series IIA 88” V8

1966 | D Registered | 3.5 Rover V8 | 3.54 High Ratio Diffs | Freewheeling Hubs | 11” Front Brakes | New Hood | Recently Serviced | MOT’d until 7th April 2017

I have a bit of a thing for these Series V8s... But decided I need to downsize the collection further, shed space required! Which is a shame, it was just the specification I wanted, and it has got to be the ultimate summer vehicle... if we get any summer!

I bought it from a retired LR mechanic in inner city Birmingham who had recommissioned/lightly restored it from an 18 year lay up. However he had just become ill so his condition meant he no longer had the energy for the vehicle any more.

The chassis and bulkhead are believed to be original, but he had them repaired good standard… the bulkhead is mildly modified to accept the V8 engine. The chassis has had new rear cross-member and back chassis legs, outriggers, and front dumb irons, all seam welded, painted and then fully under sealed inside and out. The bulkhead has has had new footwells, but the rest is original and solid.

He had also completely refurbished the axles (new brakes, bearings, seals, stripped and repainted etc), plus it also has parabolic springs. The front axle has LWB brakes, plus it has a SIII brake servo (which I have replaced for new). It's also had a new fuel tank, radiator, exhaust, battery, door tops, and canvas tilt (Undercover Covers). The exterior paintwork has been renewed in the original Marine blue, along with the wheel rims (which are fitted with very good XZLs).

The interior is good; with vinyl ‘Deluxe’ high back front seats and rear bench seats for passengers. It has a cubby box up front, plus an auxiliary panel for the extra gauges and switches (inc 12v socket).

Since I have had it; the only other work I have had to do complete it's refurb, apart from the new brake servo, is to sort the electrics out. Everything now works correctly, and I have fitted original looking Wipac H4 Halogen headlights. The only thing wrong with it is the fuel gauge - this does not work properly, which I think is down to the in tank electric fuel pump, which sits in place of the original Series type sender.

It goes down the road lovely, and sounds absolutely gorgeous. It also stops very well with the upgraded brakes. I have taken it to a few local classic shows, and always draws lots of attention!

Spec:

1966 model on original chassis. 3.5l Rover V8 engine with twin carbs from the Range Rover Classic, coupled to 3.54 (high ratio) Range Rover differentials via the strong Series IIA 4spd manual transmission. Parabolic springs all round, rebuilt axles with 11” LWB brakes on the front, coupled to a servo. Electric in-tank fuel pump. LWB steel wheels with 7.50x16 radial Michelin off road tyres. Brand new full removable canvas tilt, exhaust system from manifolds back, battery, fuel tank, radiator, and door tops. Fresh fluids and filters. Original Marine Blue paint. Original Cheshire registration. Accompanying the vehicle is a full specification sheet with service parts listed making maintenance easy.

The vehicle has a long MoT until 7th April 2017.

I am after £7,250 ono.

I am based near Chester, viewings most welcome.

I can potentially arrange UK delivery by trailer depending on distance, at extra cost.

Thanks! Thumbs Up

A real classic,...did it come off the line as a V8, or is it a later conversion?

I'm so tempted too N16kct - I'm from Cheshire and born in 1966 and looking for a Series 2A and drool when I hear a V8 Mr. Green

This V8 was a conversion Pickles according to PCA42 above - V8s weren't fitted until Series 3s AFAIK

I'm working on SWMBO to release the funds but she wants a green one Big Cry Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Thanks for the comments chaps!

Yes, it's a conversion, done a long time ago, probably in the 80s. However, it looks like it should be there, it's like a Stage 1 V8 Series IIA haha.

It reminds me of the Range Rover engine test bed 88" Land Rover themselves built...

"Hi Love, I found a rare Land Rover, it's reg is something like HUE - I think it would be great"

Other half "no, it's the wrong colour"

If I may be so bold - f*** the colour. Right year, right engine, solid tidy lovely looking truck around the corner for sensible money. Buy it Mr. Green New project and it's green: www.projectoverland.info
