I dropped in a 4HP22 gearbox from Ashcrofts. Very easy when working on a rolling chassis!

Does the V8 box mate to the 300 backplate without modification? Presumably need new flywheel torque converter etc ?
Looks a v nice build Thumbs Up

Its a 300tdi box so straight on, but you do need to swap the flywheel for a flexplate and its a different flywheel housing too. Nothing too difficult though.

Next I turned my attention to the rear tub. When I rebuilt it onto the new chassis I didn't do any bodywork, it was just a lift off lift on job. This time I wanted to do a more thorough job and the rear tub was looking a little worse for wear.

The under tub strengtheners were all completely shot. I ordered a complete new set of aluminium top hats (the pieces that run front to back) and new galvanised cross braces from YRM Metal.

New top hats riveted on ( the originals were spot welded).

Next I stripped the tub of all its old paint. I wasn't happy with the old paint and so I went down to bare ally to start from scratch.

Stripped it off with industrial paint stripper. Brushed it on and then jet washed it off leaving clean ally.

Then sprayed it up with my chosen colour I had custom mixed. It is a lovely dark grey with a satin finish.

This was the first body panel to be sprayed so it was a bit of a scary moment to see if the colour and finish would be as I hoped for.

Next I sprayed up the bulkhead. This is not the original bulkhead, but a brand new TDCi bulkhead that I had modified and then hot dipped galvanised.

So now I don't have vent flaps anymore. I never used them and it is once less place to leak and I can now sound proof and insulate better.
