I've read through the log file and I have around 16 g/s at tick over and averaging at 130 g/s at 2500rpm. So not looking like a problem here ? 2008 Defender 110 XS SW - M57N2 / 6HP28X

Those values look a little lower than normal but not enough to be an issue with the fuelling file. Next job is to remove the MAP sensor and give it a clean. This sensor can become gummed up so clean the head with carb cleaner and re install.

It's worth bearing in mind that tuners can shut the EGR but still allow the cleaning cycle or shut it off completely with no cleaning cycle.
Mines completely shut off, so on shut down there's nothing.
I've very temporarily been running without the blank fitted as I've not long had an Alive remap, I'm going to fit it soon though.
As Brian has mentioned reading through this that does seem the way to go.
I've personally always been put off of cleaning in case I mess it up somehow and actually cause a probem rather than thinking I'm doing a good deed.
Trouble is with switching between standard tune and remap is that if you have an EGR blank fitted and you go to the standard tune that will show up as a fault in its self.
You'll only be able to switch with no issues with a fully fault free EGR and no blank fitted.

Hi Carrotbay,

Have you found the origin of the injector fault codes? I have the same situation now after installing new (rebuild) injectors and changing the vcv and taking my BAS map off for pump reset and pilot correction.

Wow .. That's a long time ago. In short, no. I bought a faultmate to try and re learn the VCV and injectors. However found that you can't relearn the VCV without replacing it and I can't relearn the injectors either before sorting out the VCV 😡

I did however remove the blanking plate and whilst I still have some fault codes including needing a VCV and injector learn smoke is less and it's going pretty well. So temporarily I'm leaving well alone (also been busy moving house and work stuff so it hasn't been the priority) 2008 Defender 110 XS SW - M57N2 / 6HP28X

I have one friend in Argentina with the same issue
Also the code of the brake pedal...

He already change the injectors and the VCV and relearn the injectors but still have the same codes with white smoke and diffucult start in the mornings.

Any news or thougts? Eduardo

Hi Eduardo,

Did he do a compression test? There is a difference btw between white and blue smoke. Blue smoke can both be diesel or oil. When he did VCV did he do pump reset and then injector pilot correction sequence? Could you specify the DTC's he is getting? That might clarify the issue a little more.

Unburned diesel or oil can be many things, such as injector leaking, valve stem seals, turbo seal, sump ventilation etc etc.

Coolant and oil consumption none as it should be and colors still in order?

Just thought I may as well resurrect this thread, instead of starting another along the same lines.

Mine is a 2010 2.4, with a BAS tune and EGR delete, plus the EGR is physically blanked with a plate. It was working perfectly well when it was deleted.
I removed the tune and returned it to standard, but still with the EGR delete. The above faults were still being logged. I've performed all the checks suggested by Lorryman100, all seems good. There's no smoke of any colour, however at idle it's hunting slightly.
Its been recently serviced, which always includes the MAF and MAP sensors being cleaned, and I replaced all filters including the fuel.

There's no descernible loss in perfomance with the tune installed, just the above codes. Actually after copy and pasting it from the email sent by the BAS tool, I now notice below each code it says *Test Not Completed, what exactly does this mean?

I'm leaning towards replacing the VCV, doing the pump reset and pilot correction.

I have already performed the pilot correction on standard tune, as Pete did say that it needs to be done every six months or so, but the codes are still there.

Does anyone have any suggestions in regards to anything else I should check? or am I heading in the right direction with replacing the VCV? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Means the fault codes are not confirmed so nothing to worry about. Most likely to do with wear and tear of the injectors. I still have them as well when I look at untested fault codes but runs like a dream nonetheless so stopped caring about them. Only when a fault code has been confirmed and the engine warning light comes on you gotta start worrying.

After you replace VCV and do pump reset and then pilot correction they will be gone for a while but after about 1000km their back. The ECU should be automatically readjusting for wear in each injector which is forced by the pilot correction, most likely something to do with that.

Ozy, I had the same exact symptoms & fault codes this morning (the temperature was 3C).

I think it's the VCV, but my battery is also on its way out - it is 7 years old after all.

I'm having the battery replaced tomorrow and will report back after that --

Went to my mechanic yesterday, we checked over a few things.

The diagnosis is injectors are on their way out... but I'm running a tank on Wurth Diesel Cleaner first in case it was just bad diesel clogging the injector tips.

If not, R22k bill for 4 injectors. So much for buying the new Oppo 205 Big Cry --
