My issue with fitting it in the seatbox is that you have to stop the vehicle, get out, remove seat base, remove cover and find torch. In the dark, I'd need a second torch to do all that.
If it's not reasonably to hand, what's the point? |

Supacat.
You have it wrong, not inside but fitted into the seat box under the clip that holds the top cover down. Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |

I canīt see any stability problem with cutting a tidy hole into the front of the seat box. Had considered doing similar in the side of the seat box. The torch wouldnīt be accessable when on the move but easily reached when climbing out. Nicely presented when opening the door. It isnīt a map reading lamp anyway. Er no, I havenīt fitted it yet, either. On the list..... 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MTīs, Recaro CSīs, anorak, wellingtons |

I'm not keep on cutting the dash either, so have decided to fit one in the top of the passenger side "glove box" panel, I've bought a new genuine spare for 22 quid, can cut that about at leisure, make a tidy job and simply swap the panel out.

i did see the other day someone who has installed this into the side of a cubby box.. looked really nice and tidy.
i couldn't bring myself to cut such a big hole in the dash i just keep a full side mag light down the side of my seat between it and the cubby... wedges nicely |

I have to say, once fitted, it looks like it came standard from the factory. Specially as the torch is LR branded.
You lot need to man up, I have another two holes in the other side now..... Click image to enlarge |

The problem I see with installing it on the side of the cubby box is that you will lose half the storage inside. The cradle is quite deep and there is a load of electrical gubbins on the back as well.
The seat base is quite a good idea, what about the soundproof matting? It might be to thick for the standard mounting method of the cradle. I will be interested to see what people decide. I wonder if I will regret cutting my dash to bits |

Bristol, that looks pretty factory fit - very nice!
I also like where Andy (MCMA1) put it in his Corris 110 http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic40056-75.html - about half way down I honestly cant decide which I prefer! |
