Optimill door handles
Has anybody else fitted these yet?

got a good deal on them via urban truck, my current plastic drivers side handle had come loose, the threaded part had come unbonded from the plastic so i needed a new handle anyway..

substantial bits of metal to begin with

asked urban about fitting, which they said i had to dismantle the whole door so i had a little look inside.. at first its a complete mess, i fully dynamated my doors so i had to contend with this too

i for some reason didn't take any photos but the way i went about it without taking it all apart was to use my snap on pick set to disable the key lock piece, remove that, theres a little slip pin which connects the actual lock to the actuator etc, i managed to remove that with the pick set, the rod slides off and the 2 (well 1 in my case) screws that hold the handle on are next. It's all held together with slip on joints which are actually a welcome relief when working on defenders..

i mounted the new handle first, don't use the supplied bolts as they are too small imo (both head and length) then using the pick set replace the slip pin... passengers side is even easier as it doesn't have the key lock to contend with..

was told about 2 hours / door, first door took about a hour; second door 20 minutes max..

only problem now is i dont think i like the look of them? Shocked and i don't like the way they feel in my hand when opening from certain angles there very sharp on the thumb

First time I've seen these, and first impression is they look ok, but can see how they could feel uncomfortable in the hand. But it's only for a second and has got to be more robust than the plastic originals.

I suppose the clincher is going to be the cost. What's the price uplift over a standard handle? 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone

being billet aluminium they were never going to be cheap...

then again a standard pair of door handles will run you about £120, these however, at full rrp you might get 2 pints out of £300...
i didn't get much discount either, my car does have pretty much every upgrade available so stuff like this is about all that i can do to it..

@Mk1 yeah, they have new gaskets.

A standard pair is how much? Shocked Shocked I just spat beer out at that!

Out of billet £300 for all four doors doesn't seem that unreasonable 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone

What put me off is the oval button. I can't believe no one has manufactured ones that look like the standard ones but from Ali?

Apart from overfinch and the autobiography ones made from unobtanium.

There so far the only purchase I'm a bit sceptical of,

The way your thumb gets caught when you open the door is a bad design imo

Sorry but it looks as if someone has bent some flat bar into that shape. Not something I would want on mine. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.
