England 1986 Defender 90 2.5 n/a Diesel ST Nato Green
Hazard light staying on
Hi a neighbour of mine has a 110 double cab td5 and last night he hit a pheasant badly damaging the windscreen but also the hazards came on and he can't switch them off,he has had to disconnect the battery,does anyone please have any idea what could be causing the hazards to stay on,any help with this would be brilliant Thumbs Up many thanks Paul Tash n Barney

Had this happen to me when speeding on a heavily corrugated road in a Discovery. Turned out to be a safety measure in the event of an accident. Had to remove the glove box and reset something - think it was a relay.

Defender may have similar?

There's some kind of crash switch under the bonnet on a Td5 I think, which can be reset after an impact.

Hi thank you all for the replies one thing he didn't mention was the central locking wasn't working either,In the last hour I've checked the relay that was fine although strangely when I pressed the hazard warning switch on,the relay was ticking and when I switched them off the relay stopped clicking but there's a green box behind the dash and that was ticking with the lights flashing Rolling Eyes anyway I sat in it and put the key in the ignition switched it on and off in quick succession and pressed the key fob to lock and unlock and hey presto they stopped flashing and the central locking now works Thumbs Up I guess I must of inadvertently rebooted the system as its all now fine,one very happy neighbour Thumbs Up many thanks again Paul Tash n Barney

This is from the MY12 Workshop manual but may be of some help:

"The anti-theft system module also incorporates an internal inertia switch. In the event of an impact of sufficient severity to trigger the inertia switch when the ignition switch is in position II, the anti-theft system module will unlock all doors and operate the hazard flashers. The anti-theft system module will remain in this mode of operation for 2 minutes.

To deactivate the hazard flashers and restore the anti-theft system module to its normal mode of operation, the ignition switch should be turned to position 0 and back to position II after the 2 minute period has expired."

hi supacat many thanks for that its obviously what happened as the pheasant hit the bulkhead and bottom drivers side of the windscreen,he runs a shoot so I'm guessing the pheasant was getting revenge Whistle Thumbs Up many thanks Paul Tash n Barney
