Jimblowscash,....Yeah, well I reckon ya'd definitely be "blowing" a bit of it on this occasion, but not really "blowing" it I suppose, because it's obviously for a very good cause.
But I simply can't believe you're selling such a special Defender, which will be even more special when the "refurbishment" is complete. I suspect that there are already buyers lined up for this? Have you decided a price range yet?..... Are you sure you're not "having us on" about selling, what is to some, the ultimate Defender? Pickles. |

well I never set out to restore it on a budget as its not about the money for me, its about making sure the vehicle is around for another 18 years, and if you've ever seen one thats been done on the cheap it just looks tacky!!, and without being vulgar I've seen a couple of 50's all be it basket cases advertised for less than this restoration is costing! The only reason I'm selling it ( as much as it pains me to agree with her ) is because the other half makes a very valid point in that as a soon to be growing family we don't have the room for or need 5 taxed, insured, mot'd vehicles, none of which are family friendly and I have to sell some toys! With regards to potential buyers, I've not really advertised the fact that its going to go up for sale and already I've had several pm's here and on other sites as has Simon the restorer, as you point out it is a fairly special vehicle to begin with but once its finished it will look & drive better than new so I don't it will be a problem. I haven't set a price yet as its dependant on what the final bill is for restoration and I have to be honest simply by adding up what it was worth before the work and the cost of the work so far the figures not far off 40k and I'm more interested in covering the costs than making money so someone is going to get the deal / vehicle of the century! As I have said once its finished its going up for sale and I guess the first person to press cold hard cash into my other half's palm will be driving away with the worlds biggest grin and the best 4x4x50! |

Jimblow, Thanks for your very honest reply.
I'm surprised no-one's put their hand up for this by now,.....which also would give the new owner the opportunity to watch the refurbishment, and also risk not being "unlucky", because when it is "officially" for sale, there will only be ONE happy person, and many unhappy ones. looking forward to seeing the engine instal,.....are you doing any resto work/detailing work etc under the vehicle/chassis/suspension etc? I reckon this defender will sell "at the speed of a thousand Gazelles"! Pickles. |
