Bonjour, Hallo,
I am looking for any Belgian forum members who live near 4870 Trooz. I am in discussion with the vendor of a Defender and would be keen for a local to possibly visit and inspect the vehicle on my behalf. This would not be a full inspection with your view being legally binding!! I would just be after an inspection of the bodywork, chassis etc and a drive to check motor/gears and electrics (windows, lights, AC). Also, to check the log book for servicing. If all is good I would look to book in for a full inspection at the local LR Dealer (or independent). So just an overview to see if it is sound and clean and what it claims to be. Is there anyone local who might be interested? Happy to pay fuel, lunch/dinner and perhaps a little something for your time or to the forum.... Please let me know by PM. This could be my perfect Defender for my next project and they are rare beyond reason. If no one is free/able, then I'll be making the 7hr drive myself on Weds. Cheers! Hey Grenadier,

Hi Wim,
Thanks for that. Anything I should know about with view to buying in Belgium or is it much like France? Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

No problem.
I think it's the same. In Belgium it's mandatory to go to the MOT if you want to sell a car except if the buyer is a car mechanic or a car dealer by profession. Otherwise you must be sure to have the following papers: * a contract of the sale with all the spec's of the car (you can find a master on the internet) * certificate of conformity * inspection certificate * car pass ( is a paper given by the MOT with the mileage of every MOT, all the remarks of every MOT .... a short "history" of the car). If this is missing you can cancel the sale by law. * maintenance manual completed by a official dealer * "le demande immatriculation d'un véhicule" greetings Wim |

Wow, thanks Wim.
That's a pretty comprehensive series of checks and paperwork. In essence the reports could tell me everything I need to know about the vehicle before buying, or is that being naive. I'll ask if he can take it to his dealer, I think in Liege, or at least see if I can speak to the dealer, and take it from there. Very positive, thank you. the report can tell you a lot about the outside (chassis, suspension, corrosion, oil leaks etc)
but almost nothing about the inside (engine, gearbox....). and if the car had a "reported" accident with damage on the chassis or safety equipment you will find that too on this paper but as usual in Belgium there are many ways to work around this..... so a real check by a person you trust and has the knowledge is more worth then all these papers (in my humble opinion) |

Thanks Wim,
Agreed. The paperwork is an excellent excuse to ask him to pop it into his local dealer and pay the dealer to have a general sniff around the essentials (gearbox, engine, electrics). If all ok, then we're ready to rock and roll.... Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

Hey josef70, You could check out the website leparking.be. You can search all over Europe. And even all over the world if I'm not mistaken...
