I had this a couple of weeks back... Call A-Plan they sorted me out. I was with Hastings and they don't insure cars with snorkels..... They cancelled my insurance.
Doing a little bit of digging, a number of insurance companies have changed policy T&Cs as a result of all the floods. Not sure how a defender going down a flooded road could be claimed on if the guy was driving anyway but never mind. Cheers Michael |

This happened to me with a previous insurer whose name I forget, but they considered a RAI an 'off-road' mod and loaded the premium accordingly...... Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

Hi, slight thread drift on this but I have had exactly the same problem but with a soft LR A bar and the insurer refuses to cover it. Somewhat ironically it has a Warn winch which they have no issues with - despite the relative damage a soft a bar Vs a winch would do to anything. Likewise they are fine with the Mantec RAI. I am insured with a normal A Plan office but as a matter of course they do not refer to the specialist LR part of A Plan so if you do call them make sure you call the branch that advertises on here. Regards, Paul

Not everyone gets on well with A-Plan - I for one found the Thatcham branch to be generally useless at communicating. Paperwork going missing, not replying to emails, telling me they'd email me and never doing so... etc.
Always very friendly when I called but never much use. I was extremely glad when my insurance expired and I'm not with a company that can manage email. |

Snap - i had issues with a-plan Its interesting what they class and dont class and what you actually need to tell them or not...have a look in the policy booklet first and see what is SAYs not what the pleb interprets a snorkel (factory accessory) is not usually a modification...at least the underwriters dont view it like that Mike |

Had a look at Direct lines policy booklet and under Modifications and all the expected blurb about informing them before modification etc it says
Modifications are changes to your cars standard specification, including optional extras So, my current Landy isn't a standard spec and never has been as it went through SV for medical duty fit before being exported to SA part of which included the snorkel. the new one well the snork was an option chosen by the original buyer I guess so that's declarable, just cant fathom why they think a snork makes the van uninsurable for them unless they have had a ton of green laneing or flood wading claims as mentioned earlier in the thread.. Hope to get new insurance tomorrow AM as i'm supposed to collect the new truck at 10 AM /doh. 3 Landrovers |

So, I called Direct Line to explain that my Landie has an official Land Rover Raised air intake (amongst other things) to make sure I am still covered and they cancelled my insurance. Not bothered about A bars, lights, roof rack, tow bar, only RAI's.
Tried Peter Best and they refused. The search continues now because I have no insurance from noon Sunday. |

A Plan unless you have used them before and don't like them?
LV are good but not sure how flexible they are concerning mods. It goes through cycles. One year it was raised suspension, the next winches. New project and it's green: www.projectoverland.info |
