From what I have heard, in Germany the car cannot be changed from factory spec, even when rebuilding one. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

As long as MOT only checks for failures and you're done, nobody will detect it. When they start to measure again, they will notice. Due to the fact that measure only is done at higher speeds -- when EGR is closed anyway -- there is a chance to pass. Quality remaps (e.g. Bell) allow you to switch between the genuine and remapped versions.... |

Good heavens, it isnīt anything like that bad, here. There are many, many tuned, and modified production cars and quite a number of one offs, kit cars, and replicas as well. With the autobahns, Nurburgring and many wonderful mountain passes within easy reach, chip tuning, and performance upgrades are standard practice. Most owners stick to rules and get modifications tested and approved by the TüV or Dekra. The testers get difficult if the brakes and suspension arenīt upgraded to suit the horsepower. However, a 175 hp Defender is no problem. In the big scheme of things, it is still a slow vehicle. I am always amused at how many trikes you see here - you know, a chopper front end, with a tuned VW Beetle engine hanging out the back, and some hairy rocker perched in between. Occasionally seen them even with a trailer or caravan....and all on german plates No proper front brakes, no protection, and extremely bad taste! German humour! What they donīt appreciate here, is if you decat, or mess around with the the emissions. And since the VW scandal, emissions has become a sensitive subject. 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MTīs, Recaro CSīs, anorak, wellingtons |
