Well I know for sure I won't be making this mistake again!
I may look at the service plan as I do want the digital log book updated, not sure if independent specialists can do that? If they are going to charge me a rediculous amount, I may go as far as to invalidate my warranty by servicing it myself for £100 with genuine or better parts and simply pay for anything that goes wrong in the first 3 years... I'm sure the parts are only designed to fail at 3 years and 1 day just like the iPhone... Michael A disgruntled Land Rover owner with a sore bum |

Some of the independent Land Rover servicing agents can update the online service history.
Just had one of ours serviced by an independent. No online history but ALL the previous services had been done by a main LR dealership who just stamped the service book. I do not know what detail they put on the online data base.Is it just a short service or long service, or is it more detailed saying customers advised re low tread/tyre cracking etc etc Brendan |

Main dealer, service centre or independent, allowing them to do a set service on the vehicle without agreeing a price first is hardly ideal. Get a quote first - simplez.
BTW: That price strikes me as being run of the mill main dealer pricing to me. That's not to say it isn't expensive for what they actually do but they have to pay for the flash showroom, suits, coffee and potted plants. Steve. Main Stealers what can you do? there all the same!!
This afternoon I have booked my directors company S-class in for a service at the local Mercedes dealers, Just short of £500 for what is essentially a basic service, I mentioned a Clunk & squeak from the suspension that I noticed when driving it the other day MB "No problem sir! but i have to inform you that we charge £111 for any diagnostic work as its out of warranty" Me "Why?" MB "its for hooking up our computer to the cars diagnostic system" Me "& its that good it will tell you where a noise is coming from on the suspension?" MB "Yes, but if we go on to repair the fault we find we will only charge you 50% of the diagnostic fee" Me "Thats very generous!" MB "Do you know which side, Front or rear the noise is coming from?" ME " for £111 can you not work that out for yourself's? Forget the noise, I'll get our local garage to have a look!!" If it were my choice our local garage would be servicing it but boss man wants an MB dealer stamp in the book |

You could do an oil change 5 times for that price.I would be 10000% more impressed if you could provide receipts for as much. Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

[img]From day 1 I have had all my servicing done by a local country Garage. Before I bought the Defender I said I would not be taking it to a dealer for servicing. I was told this was ok so long as the local garage used Landrover parts.
So its only been to a dealer for a recall. Local guy is times cheaper.[/img] |

I was just quoted £460 by Stafford landrover to do mine while it was in for warranty work.....
Ended up going to a local Indy and paid £235 Admittedly nobody at the Indy greeted me in the car park with an umbrella and I didn't get a courtesy car but the lovely woman who booked me in did drop me off in Town and picked me back up a few hours later. Dealers are robbing bxxtards....... Puma 2.2 90 Stationwagon |

My normal approach
Call Harwoods, main dealer - get quote Call independent and receive another Call Harwoods back and its either yes or no, or we can knock this much off Its always worked until this year when I thought sod it and it went to the independent direct As someone said, somebody has to pay for the coffee machine, nice courtesy car and magazine rack Reminds me, must get the service books stamped |

It might be unfair to blame the dealer. Rather, look to the manufacturer who imposes high cost requirements depending on the brand image they are looking to promote. http://www.defender2.net/forum/post502543....fit#502543 |

I think Mini got it absolutely spot on years ago when they introduced their 'TLC' service pack for £100.00 at the time of purchasing a new car. Keeps the car with Mini and looks good for used purchasers with 5 years 'peace of mind'... YOLO... You Only Live Once...

I got a service package with a BMW I purchased a few years ago. It cost £500 and was for all servicing over a 5year period.
Worked perfectly and I either waited (and drank their coffee, munched their biccys ) or paid a nominal amount for a courtesy car..... |
