servicing question
i bought an svx back in late 2008.... i was told by the dealer that i should bring it in for the first service when it reaches 12,000 km. I hardly drive the car so it just reached 11,790 km. when i took it for the service they told me that i should have brought the car every 6 months. now I have been driving it with out any servicing for 2 years. what kind of damage am i looking at. my defender never failed in any way... its still feels brand new.

please help

cheers

If you must know it is clearly written in your defender owner's handbook that you must service your vehicle every 12,000 km or every 6 months which ever comes first. I have had my defender brand new since march 2008 and only completed 26,000 kms and I have already serviced it 3 times. I would suggest you have a word with Shankar the service manager at al tayer garhoud service centre. If you have the gulfnews paper turn to page 3 (wednesday Jan 5th 2011) there is a safety recall on all defenders. good luck. Thumbs Up '08 LR Defender 110

Thanks mate. I am taking to AAA. I am not paying 4,800 for a still considered first check up.

Yeah what recall?

I find that very strange, in SA the service interval is 20Kkm or 1 year. Neutral

Main thing would be to change the oils and filters. Do it yourself for pounds Thumbs Up There won't be any damage. I would take it to a reputable independent if you have lost your warranty they will be a lot cheaper and from what I hear will be a lot more conscientious than some main dealers - have heard of many horror stories about the work not being done properly at some main dealers. Fuel filters not being replaced for instance when they should have been Sad

@fekete & you guys I'll scan the paper for you guys tomorrow.

Its basically a safety recall involving defenders for a condition that can lead to a reduction in performance of the parking brake (hand brake) due to its friction material getting contaminated by the transfer box oil leak. This includes defender VIN from SALLDVAS87A730411 to SALLDWNS7BA823248. This is issued by the ministry of economy in UAE.

This was an LR Service Bulletin on this forum sometime back can't seem to find it cause I had mine repaired under warranty and also had my rear diff replaced under warranty. Mr. Green

@SVX90 - Shocked 4800aed you kidding right? AAA guys are great they did a great job on my dad range rover classic and series 3! but you know you warranty will become invalid? good luck mate.

@landydubai - thats al tayer for you Rolling with laughter who do you deal with there?

@Naks - I know its very strange but if we don't follow our dealers instructions our warranty becomes void! Whistle '08 LR Defender 110

Hey all. I was informed at al tayer garhoud that the puma td4 defender should be serviced every 10,000 km and not 12. I checked tge service booklet as well and it has the same info you need to check the list of the countries and the ones UAE has it under 10k 2012 Fuji White 110 Flattened

why is an svx different to another tdci? the service schedule (certainly in the UK) is every 12, 24, 36 etc, months or miles, whichever comes first.

The difference in intervals is due to the climatic conditions and quality of diesel available in that region. --
