Swivel question
This actually relates to my series one - but is applicable to all 'live axle' Land Rover models, so I just wonder what the general opinion is please?

Well, very embarrassingly, I have just had it pointed out to me that after I rebuilt my front axle some 5 years ago, I managed to re-assemble it with the swivels on the wrong side, or wrong way around - so the filler holes point forwards. I have not had a problem with steering, but have had some feathering of the tyres, which I previously put down to tracking.

So the big question is, does it make any difference? can I live with them, or should they really be re-fitted the right way around? Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

I can't immediately think of a reason why it should matter, as far as I know there is nothing handed about them except the filler.

Thanks - that was what I thought too - and actually having the fillers reversed helps me, as I want to fit a disk brake conversion, and that the calliper location would make it harder to check the oil levels. Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

Lots of differences of opinion on this - and, having thought about it, I only did one side at a time when I replace the balls etc, so they would have gone back on the same way they came off, so if they are the wrong way around, they have been like that for nearly 20 years (that I have owned it). Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....
