James Baroud Explorer Evo roof top tent
After the group visit to Devon 4x4 on the 30th Jan, I thought I would post up some photo's of the James Baroud roof tent that caught my eye.

It seemed a quality bit of kit, well made and with some features that I particularly liked such as the ability to get lots of air circulating from each side due to the zip up flaps all around. The roof pops up from the base on lockable struts.

This seems like a newish model so there are not many pictures available on the website. This one was on a stand used for displays and shows.

This is the bottom of the tent showing the fixing rails which hold the bolt heads and allow brackets to go around roof racks or
roof bars.

Hope this helps anyone wanting a bit more info. Ladder and mattress are included and Devon are the official agents for J B.

Not cheap though....but cheaper than a Maggi

Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated Mr. Green

I replaced my Maggi (wind up and down version) for one of these.

Very happy with the Baroud... It goes up just like their video but the gas struts are quite strong so getting it down is not as easy as they show in the video. I was hoping this was because it was new and there's still a chance for this being the case. Even so, it's quicker and easier up and down than my previous Maggi.

A minor point to note but this has nothing to do with the tent per se, is the ladder fixing locations and their compatibility of other things you may have on your truck. I have a Foxwing fixed on one side and an OzTent strapped to the rack on the other. Both of these other bits of kit mean the ladder does not 'slot' into its intended position. When we're making a camp for a few days, the OzTent comes off and is 'pitched' (not the right word for an OzTent) so it's not a problem because the ladder slots in nicely where it was designed to do so. But if we want to do a quick stopover the OzTent stays on and we've had to improvise a solution for the ladder access.

I'll post a review of the tents performance at the end of our journey...if we get there! One Life...Living it.

What sort of price are these?

Cannot see price mentioned on the website? Could be an option for my Brother.

I got one of these last summer and am over the moon with it! Took a bit of a gamble and ordered it from Spain as there was no stock in the UK. It saved a bit of money too which was a big plus and arrived pretty much unscathed.
My only gripe would be the ladder, unless you're on nice level ground I've found it to be prone to collapsing into the vehicle, this might just be me but I'm not that heavy at 13 stone! Only other thing I've changed is adding a memory foam mattress topper, super comfy even for me at 6"5.
EDIT - Think it came to £1400 ish off the top of my head
