There are times when I wish I had one fitted - from the clip you will see i only just got away with it
the ironic thing was i had just fitted a nugget kit and ordered a Mantec one for the soft top i am currently trying to build! http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic44325.html Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop Last edited by jst on 8th Mar 2016 6:34pm. I quite like the look - I preferred it when the air intakes were passenger side - 200tdi and earlier!!
I like the look of the Southdown snorkel - would seem less prone to bank/tree damage. Has anyone got 1 on a Puma? |

! I read all the threads I could find and watched all the youtube videos...the lot...all about fitting the snorkel properly. I even used sealant between the snorkel and paintwork where the original vent was... not sure i will be able to get that off to fit the nugget stuff sealed air system... GUTTED!

I fitted a Mantec one to my 110 last year. My thoughts were...
1: Painted it gloss black. Looked brilliant and did not crack... it is very ridged. 2: It quietens down the cabin noise! You cannot hear the 'rush' of the standard air intake anymore. Good! 3: Get the 'nugget stuff' plumbing between the intake and the air filter if you have any intention of 'wading' Aside from functionality, I quite like them for looks too... the Mantec is heaps cheaper than the genuine LR one, and looks very similar. Not a fan of any type that requires a "sandwich" double seal on both sides of the wing What could possibly go wrong? Much better this arrangement: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Does away with any joints around the wing - less connections mean less points of potential failure. I have that one sat in a box at home, just can't work out if I can actually get my hands in to secure the bolts. Has anyone else tried to secure that to a Puma.

I think if the OP just wants the RAI for looks, all would be suitable.
If for dusty conditions, again all ok IMHO. However, if for actual deep water wading, the Safari arrangement looks definitely the way to go... YOLO... You Only Live Once... |

I love the look of the snorkels have had them on all my defenders as well as the disco 3 and 4. However I am not a fan of the LR or modern looking ones, I just added this mantec to my SVX

Just a thought - I realised that I hadn't updated my insurance with Hastings to include my snorkel so I called them. Hastings don't cover snorkels so I have 7 days to get new insurance... Thought I'd let you know...
Any recommendations on insurance company? |

It's probably worth asking these questions again as new products come out and a better solution might be found...
