Just got a CTEK MSX 7 following the good reviews on here, anyway it says my battery is U/S.
So I have 2 questions for other users 1/ have you used the recon program with the battery still connected to your 2.4 tdci and did it cause any problems? 2/ if i disconnect the battery to do the recon with it disconnected what problems will I encounter when I reconnect it many hours later? thanks in advance DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS, I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

Recon will be fine on the car.
Used them on everything in the modern LR stable. Mark. |

If you mean the White/grey aux plug in the old twin systems, usually the perm live in that is rated at 10A so yes, I do this on my D3 regularly, not sure of ratings on modern single plug set up, but id be surprised if it's not also 10 A
Martin has the adapters in the forum shop http://www.disco3.co.uk/shop/tow-electrics...c-p45.html |

If you intend to use the reconditioning programme while the battery is connected to an auxiliary connector there are a few things to check. If you are using a fused connector check the fuse rating as the reconditioning programme at its first stage provides a series of rapid 15.8v pulses intended to help shake off any sulphate deposits within the battery, so if your auxiliary connector is fused below this rating it will probably blow. Also the time it will take the reconditioning programme to fun and finish, this is determined by the state of discharge and the amperage of the battery of course but as a rule of thumb Defender batteries tend to be the high amperage size so the reconditioning programme can take a long time as an example a 110 amp battery will take up to twenty four hours minimum, so bear this in mind if you use your vehicle as a daily run-around. If you are using s CTEK of 10 amps or less, you can buy a quick connect tail that you leave attached to the battery. Either feed it through the rubber plug outside the front of the outer seat runner, or use a CTEK panel-mounted socket, mounted next to the clip that holds down the battery box. Both are excellent solutions and make it very quick and easy to attached the charger. |

As posted here before, I fitted the charging socket into where a blank was for my non existent electric wimdow switch. It's tidy looking and very easy to hook up the Ctek now. I just close my extension cable in the bottom corner of the door and thanks to Land Rovers legendary panel gaps the cable comes to no harm The charger is then safe and dry inside the motor.

You may well be right sometimes I forget what day it is. All I know is that CTEK recommend a fuse link of 15A and that is the rating of the fuse supplied with the genuine CTEK connector I have, I always follow the manufactures advice when dealing with electrics. thanks for all the responses. As per the CETK instructions it says it pulses at 15.8 volts on Recond and this can effect the life of electronics.
So to play it safe I have disconnected the battery and it is now on a Recond cycle whilst disconnected. I will let you all knoow if this recovers the Battery which currently wont go above 12 volts on the normal charge program, or if charged with my standard charger. results of using my new CTEK MXS7.
I have been suffering from infrequent use flat battery syndrome and my standard Halfords charger will recover the battery and it will then start OK, if I use the car regularly it will be fine. The battery is the original 5 years old 150Ah 800A CC lead acid type. I purchased a CTEK MXS 7 with a view to leaving it connected when the car is not in use , and the reconditioning program appeared a good plus point, however the CTEKt wont get past the soft start stage and going into error mode whilst connected to the car. I therefore removed the battery and tried a Recond program, however again it wont get past the soft start stage. The voltage of the battery at the point of the error light coming on being about 12.2 volts. I'm assuming this means my battery is U/S . (have posted the question to CTEK on their forum) I'm guessing I need to buy a new battery and I thought I would need to before I got the CTEK and at least now I have the CTEK to look after it.
